How To Replace/install A Bakflip Cover For Your Truck

While the exact instructions may vary depending on the model and year of your truck and the BAKFlip tonneau cover you choose, you can follow this general guide to install a new BAKFlip cover on your truck:
- To install your new BAKFlip cover, make sure you have a 9/16 wrench. You may also want to ask a friend or family member to help you lift the tonneau cover on the back of your truck.
- Place the tonneau cover on the bed rails of your truck.
- Secure your BAKFlip cover to the two supporting rails using the clamps on the sides of the truck bed.
- Tighten all the clamps on each side of your truck bed with the 9/16 wrench to secure the cover. Most BAKFlip covers include three clamps on each side, but longer truck beds may have four clamps on each side to provide additional security.

How Do I Clean It
Contrary to popular belief, silicon-based products can deteriorate vinyl and rubber. I suggest using a protectant that is designed for vinyl. Simply wash the tonneau cover with the same soap and water you use to clean your truck with.
Once the tonneau cover is dry, you can apply the protectant. Its a good idea to test the protectant on a small part of the tonneau cover that isnt easily visible. If it doesnt leave a mark, proceed to apply it liberally to 2 square foot sections at a time. Immediately start to wipe it down and work it in.
Continue until the entire truck bed cover is covered. This should be repeated every 3 months, depending on your environment. The key is not to let it get damaged to the point of no return and ruin the matte finish.
Bakflip Contractor Series Differences
The BAKFlip CS is an integrated tonneau cover. It has exactly similar features as the BAKFlip G2. The only distinguishing feature is the integrated rack system which is not present in G2.

Bakflip Mx4 Tonneau Cover Differences
The BAKFlip MX4 is a panel-style tonneau cover that is split into four panels. This is different from the usual three in all the other BAKFlip tonneau covers.
Aluminum construction
The truck bed cover is made of aircraft-grade aluminum panels which are filled with premium density EPS foam as the core. The core is 0.75 thick, and this gives it the same weight capacity rating as F1 which is 400 lbs.
One of the unique features of MX4s design is its four folding panels. When folded wide open and leaning on the cab, the cover becomes shorter than the tri-folds, which provides visibility for the 3rd brake lights.
This also allows it to offer full bed access. The cover also has an injection molded latch system which is stronger than the aluminum ones.
Aluminum top surface
This is one of the major distinguishing features between MX4 and F1. While the F1 has a fiberglass top surface, the MX4 has an aluminum top surface. Because of this, F1 tends to have longer durability than MX4 since fiberglass is more impact, scratch and dent resistant.

How To Install It
Installing the BAK cover isnt very complicated, challenging, or a lot of hard work. It will take only about 20 to 30 minutes. You will need a drill with a T-30 torques bit and nothing more. But, dont worry this installation does not require you to drill holes into your truck the cover attaches to existing threaded locations in the truck bed.
The front bulkhead part has a simple seal that you stick in the corners, and they fill in the gaps on each side of the bulkhead to prevent leakage.
Remember to slide in the mounting brackets to the side rail before you attach it to the bed rail, or you will have to remove it, then add the mounting brackets ten re-attach the side rail.
There is a seal on the bottom side of the side rail, so when you mount the side rail to the bed rail, you have to start at a 45-degree angle, and when it is lined up, just rotate it down, then screw in the bolts.
Once the rails are attached, simply install the cover itself.
