Randy: Hey guys, it’s Randy here at etrailer.com again. Today we’re taking a look at the Back Industries Revolver X2. This is a, as you can see, a hard style tonneau cover that gives us that classic smooth look. It has flush rails so it doesn’t stick up off the side of the vehicle very much. Overall, it offers a lot of security and a lot of protection, which is generally what we’re looking for out of an tonneau cover.Either we have sensitive items in there, we don’t want them getting wet, we don’t want them getting dirty, so we wanna protect them. Or we have expensive items in there.
We could have tools, stiff wheels, things like that. And when using this cover with the locking tailgate, it’s one of the most secure lids on the market.Now some additional benefits that we have are the look quality with this. You can see it’s a nice, flush design, it doesn’t really stick up over our bed rails very high. It’s just gonna give us that clean, sleek look but offers a lot of protection. Also as a side effect, we’re not gonna have that wind bucketing into the bed of the truck.

Bought This Cover For My 2016
Bought this cover for my 2016 Tacoma. The overall construction of the cover is not bad. However, the cover was missing hardware/parts when I received it. Partsengine worked hard to get them for me immediately and the MFR supplied them without issue. The price was hundreds less than any local shop I inquired at. Installation instructions were a little vague but an online youtube video cleared a few things up just fine. Took me a couple hours to install. So far, the cover looks good and I am pleased with it but time will tell how good it is in the long run.

Product Review: Bak Revolver X2 And Bak Box 2
Since 2012, when I bought the BAK Roll-X tonneau cover for my 2011 Ford F-150, BAK has redesigned their signature roll-up tonneau cover enough to call for a new name: Revolver X2. In addition, theyve released the BAK Box 2, a tool box which was designed to work with their truck bed covers, hence the dual installation and review post. Continue reading for my installation and review of these two products.
When I bought my new 2015 Ford F-150, I knew that eventually Id be installing a bed cover, since I use it to haul tools and luggage quite often, and having those items secured out of the elements and prying eyes is a big benefit. After having such a positive experience with the BAK Roll-X, I went online to order one, only to find that they didnt make it for my new truck, and in fact its only available as long as supplies last. Its been replaced by the Revolver X2, which features virtually the same setup aluminum slats, hinged together and coated in vinyl, with latches at the tailgate and rotating C channel that lock the cover down. This all works together to create a large trunk out of the bed of a truck, if not quite as water tight as a car or SUVs trunk area.
Ill start with the installation of the tonneau cover, then cover the tool box installation, and then my review of both items. , if youd like.

I Really Like The Look Of Thi
I really like the look of this product installed on my 2015 Ford F150. My only real concern is how strong it is. I do not believe it would hold up under a load, if someone were to step onto the cover or even place a heavy object on the cover. I never have to find out the answer.

No Drill Simple Installation
Similar to the BAKFlip line, installation is simple, using the shown No Drill Clamps which mount the locking rails to the truck bed. Installation can take as little as fifteen minutes. A BAK rep did personally give us some advise on install. Make sure the cover is square to your cab and sitting properly on the rails before you tighten up the front screws. To double check if you have her square, close the gate gently onto the Universal Bulb Tailgate Seal. You want some compression on that seal so it is water-tight. If that’s what you are getting consistently along the length of the tailgate, you are ready to tighten those screws up & finish the installation.

This cover looks great thanks to the textured black vinyl skin on aluminum slats. The UV-resistant, low-profile design gives your truck a sleek, rugged look. The cover fits inside the rails and tailgate and lies flush with the truck bed when locked, saving on fuel. It’s compatible with stake-pocket-mounted accessories and raised side rails.

No Stitching & No Velcro: Smooth & Secure
The Revolver X2 has a sleek and smooth look when completely closed. It is almost zero profile, laying flush with the top of your truck bed and providing full access to all of your stake pocket holes for rack and other accessory use. There is no stitching at all. The Leather Grain Vinyl is seamless and refined. But the most important aspect of the Revolver X2 is the complete lack of Velcro. Some competitor roll-up hard covers use Velcro to “secure” the tonneau along the side or rails of the truck bed. If you can recall the ease of use with Velcro from your childhood, then you can imagine just how insecure this really is. No Velcro here! The patented security locking rails explained above are the most important part of the system as far as security is concerned. Once locked in place, it is nigh impossible to get into this tonneau without opening the tailgate–protecting your equipment from prying eyes. Furthermore, when rolled all the way open, a buckle system allows the cover to be locked in place at the bulkhead, allowing complete access to the entire bed. Again, this roll-up seems to provide the ease of access such tonneau’s are known for with the security that is more commonly found in a hard cover fold or even a truck lid. That’s superior security with flexibility & ease of use–truly the best of all worlds when it comes to bed covers at least.

The Installation Of This Cover
The installation of this cover was simple and quick. Installed on my F150 short box with bed liner, the fit was precision. The instructions are easy to follow but the short and to the point, YouTube video made them virtually unnecessary. The quality appears good but I’ll have to wait and see how the product stands up over time, particularly the vinyl/aluminum bond.Anson at PartsEngine was very helpful and delivery to Ontario from BC was less than a week….and free!Karl

True Apotheosis Of The Roll
After a detailed run-through of all the X2 has to offer, I have to conclude that this tonneau cover is the best roll-up hard cover currently on the market. It provides everything most consumers want in a cover: superior water resistance, the best security possible, ease of rolling up and locking, intuitive design, and that universal bulb seal so you don’t have to close your tailgate before locking the cover down. Add in the 3 Year Warranty and a 400 lbs. evenly distributed weight rating and this is beyond top-of-the-line: a true apotheosis in cover design and execution. BAK has truly outdone itself this time. And again buyer beware, as some of the competitors may offer a similar looking rollable hard cover design, but no one has this patented locking system except for BAK, and a few other lines do use Velcro to secure the sides of the cover, whereas BAK is using a metal locking tooth/rail to hold the cover in place. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather have a metal rail protecting my gear than Velcro–while I like to think of myself as being young at heart, I ain’t no little kid. No Velcro for me! If you want the maximum security and functionality, the ability to easily roll-up your cover whenever needed all with hard cover protection, the Revolver X2 is where it’s at for you and for me, baby!

Strong Convenient Hybrid Design
The secret to the Revolver X2’s versatility is the aluminum slats on the underside of the cover that make it strong, seamless, and flexible. These individual, hinged slats give the cover its rugged body, while also allowing enough flexibility for the cover to be rolled up. Atop the slats is a tough, 1-piece vinyl layer that adds to the tonneau’s sleek look and overall durability while also keeping the slats perfectly aligned. As a result, the Revolver X2 will roll up evenly every time, unlike ordinary soft vinyl covers that can get lopsided as you maneuver them.

Secure straps for when the tonneau cover is rolled up ripped out of the washers holding to the frame. Tarp pulled away from rubber seal causing water leak. Latches on the side of the cover dont always latch into the track.544511
Well,I do like the tonneau cover ,but, when rolled up to to tow a 5th wheel where the rolled cover sits stowed it has damaged the cover by punching thru the material. I suppose you donât have a fix for this , like a wear strip that can be put over this for some protection .? With the weight of the rolled up cover in the stowed position for towing and the air and road vibration the cover moves just enough to wear thru the material , it would be good if you have a fix.529980

Cold Weather Performance Considerations:
The season of winter is what needs to be considered greatly in case of selecting the best tonneau for your ride. Most users have given their positive remarks on these two covers for their performance during the colder season.
The temperatures they can carry on with are almost of the same range and usable in extreme snowfall according to many users. Rolling them up and down requires a bit of effort in freezing weather but still they get the job done.
Ice formation can cause the rail lock to get stuck and moving the covers may be more challenging in some circumstances, but both are capable of taking a load of pilled ice over them weighing up to 400lbs.
In order to prevent any rough and effortful moving of the covers, it is advised to place the truck under shade so that the ice cant form over them during freezing temperatures.
Moreover, they can take up much space to tightly roll up in this weather than the sunny days, meaning they may cause less visibility of the rear of the truck. But again, it is not a concern to most of the users as these tonneau covers come with a large number of features that are preferred by most.
