Making Roasted Potatoes In An Air Fryer
The process for making roasted potatoes in your air fryer isnt that much different from making them in the oven:
- Preheat your air fryer
- Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes
- Stir the potatoes
- Cook for another 8-12 minutes
Start by preheating the air fryer to 400 degrees for 10 minutes. You want the air fryer super hot when you add the potatoes so they get as crispy as possible.
While the air fryer preheats, cut the potatoes in half lengthwise. I like to use a mix of petite gold potatoes and petite red potatoes, but you can use whatever you like best. Just make sure the pieces are all similar sizes so they cook evenly.
Rinse the cut potatoes under cool water and let them drain really well.
Toss the potatoes with the olive oil and seasonings. Add the potatoes to the preheated fryer basket, along with some fresh thyme and smashed garlic cloves if you like.
Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes, then give them a stir. Cook them for another 8-12 minutes, until they are crispy on the outside and fork-tender on the inside.
Remove the potatoes to a serving bowl and take out the sprigs of thyme and the garlic cloves, if you used them. Season with additional salt and pepper, if needed. You can also toss them with some whole-grain mustard if you like.

Sometimes, things need to be kept straightforward and simple, right? Well, thats what I think when it comes to certain foods. Too often, folks add so many extras to a recipe that you cant recognize what the main ingredient is. When Im cooking, I like to let good ingredients speak for themselves. Thats where these potatoes come in.
Recently, I picked up some baby potatoes at the grocery and I knew I wanted to cook them in my air fryer. Id had great success cooking sweet potatoes in the air fryer so I was sure the red potatoes would turn out great. I love using the air fryer for a number of reasons. Its easy to use, cooks food perfectly and clean up is a breeze. So, when I got home, I was playing around with just how I wanted my recipe to come together when it came to me. If I cooked those beautiful, simple potatoes perfectly, they wouldnt need a bunch of stuff added to them. Boom. That was it and I had a plan.

How To Cook A Potato In The Air Fryer
Start by scrubbing Russet potatoes with water. I like to use a clean scratcher pad or scrub brush. Then wipe the potatoes dry with a towel.
Use a knife or fork to poke several holes into the potatoes. It will help the potatoes to vent the steam building up in them as they cook. That way theres no risk of them exploding and making a mess.
Rub or spray the potatoes with oil. I use organic canola, but any neutral-flavored high heat oil will work.
After oiling the potatoes, you can add other seasonings like granulated onion, garlic powder, and/or coarse salt.
Put the potatoes into the fryer basket.
Make sure not to overcrowd, so that theres room for air flow around the potatoes. Four medium-sized potatoes fit nicely in most baskets.
Air fry at 390 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Stop about half way through to flip the potatoes with a fork or tongs.
The time will vary a little, depending on the size of your potatoes. Youll know the potatoes are done when you can easily stick a fork into them.
Slice the potatoes open, and fluff the inside of the potatoes with a fork. Fill with your preferred toppings.

What Is Bad About Air Fryers
Not even the fact that it runs the chance of causing acroynmides and polycylic aromatic chemicals can make this product a bad choice. Air fried chickens are safe to eat, though, since the heat used to cook the chicken is low enough to avoid the formation of these compounds. However, there is always the possibility of acylamide formation when using high heat. This is especially true if the temperature is too high, which is why airfrying is best done at a low temperature. If you are concerned about the potential health risks associated with eating airfried chicken, you should consult a doctor before doing so. And if possible, avoid eating it raw.

Why Use An Air Fryer
An air fryer is one of those appliances that has done the rounds on social media and has become something of a trendy thing to have in your kitchen at the moment.
However, despite peoples complaints about the air frying being basically just a small oven, it is actually really useful for making small amounts of food very quickly.
The main advantage of the air fryer is the fact that it is a lot more convenient and quick than using a regular oven.
The air currents used in the air fryer ensure that your baked potato is not only evenly cooked but it has a dry and crispy skin and totally soft, tender insides as well.
The other main advantage is that you dont have to preheat it! You can just turn it on and use it whenever you want. Plus, you barely have anything to clean!
When you bake potatoes in a regular oven, you have to wrap them on foil, spread loads of oil on it, and usually end up with the oil dripping everywhere, meaning you need to clean a baking tray.
Thanks to the air fryer, you can skip all that mess and just wipe down the inside of the air fryer after it cools down.
It isnt just faster, but it is so much easier as well.
How To Make Baked Potatoes In An Air Fryer
I have many oven-baked potatoes, from roasted potato wedges to twice-baked potatoes, just to name a couple. But, sometimes I would rather use my oven for another dish, so using an air fryer for this recipe just makes sense. Plus, they turn out great!
To bake potatoes in an air fryer, first, scrub and rinse the potatoes. Next, pierce holes into the potato to allow steam to escape while they are being cooked. After poking holes in the skin, coat each potato with oil and sprinkle with salt. Place the prepared potatoes into the basket of your air fryer. This is the Air Fryer I use, and we love it!
Cook at 400°F for 25 minutes, flip over the potatoes and cook for another 25 minutes, or until the potatoes are brown and fluffy on the inside. Serve with butter or all of your favorite toppings. I love my baked potatoes topped with homemade chili and cheese.
