Cleaning Grease Off An Oven Using Hydrogen Peroxide

How to Remove Burnt-on Grease from your Stove-top

Hydrogen peroxide has strong oxidizing properties, while baking soda is a mild scouring agent. When the two ingredients are mixed, they become a cleaning force to be reckoned with when removing tough stains.

We recommend using this solution on those hardened areas of grease build-up around the burner and grates. This cleaning solution can also be used as a DIY oven glass cleaner.

  • Microfiber cloth

Pour the baking soda into the bowl and add just enough of the hydrogen peroxide to form a runny paste. Pour the paste onto the stubborn stained areas of the stove. Let the cleaning solution sit for a few minutes and then use the cloth to work at the stains until gone.

You can use a scraper for those really tough spots of hardened grease and food. Just be sure to hold the scraper at an angle and go slowly to ensure that you do not scratch the stove surface. Use a wet sponge to wipe the entire surface clean.

Heres what you need for this stove top cleaning trick:

Our stove top was really dirty before I cleaned it!

I wiped down the entire thing with soap and water and scrubbed at the stubborn spots, but there was still a bunch of gunk that had been baked on around the burners that just wouldnt come off.

But dont worry, that stuff comes off! To make your cleaning mixture, pour about a half cup of baking soda into a small bowl, then slowly add hydrogen peroxide, mixing until it forms a slightly runny paste.

Pour some of the paste out onto the stubborn spots on the stove, grab a Viva® Vantage® towel, and start scrubbing! The Viva® Vantage® towels have a scrubby texture, kinda like terry cloth, so they work great for scrubbing the stove top. Plus theyre strong and durable, like cloth, so they dont disintegrate when they get wet, which makes them great for cleaning!

The gunk and stains should start to come up right away as you scrub!

If you have some super stubborn stains, pour a little more of the paste mixture onto the spot and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then come back and try scrubbing again! In some spots we had to leave it soak a few times, and REALLY scrub at the stains, but eventually the combination of soaking and scrubbing worked, and our stove top came completely clean!

Let it sit for 1-2 minutes, then gently scrub the stain with a scouring pad. It should be loosened and come off easily.XResearch source
  • If you dont have any vinegar on hand, you can substitute the same amount of hydrogen peroxide.XResearch source

  • Cleaning A Heavily Soiled Glass Stove Top

How to Clean Your Crusty Stove Top, using Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

If you have a heavily soiled glass stove top, you may need to use a razor scraper to remove hardened or sticky foods. Read your owner’s manual first and do not use a razor scraper unless it’s recommended. Follow the manual instead to find the best glass stove top cleaner and cleaning technique for your model.

If the manual says you can use a razor scraper, first spray distilled white vinegar on the food debris to soften it. Then scrape gently and slowly, holding the scraper as flat as possible. Using the corners of the blade or moving the scraper in a direction parallel to the blade can ruin the stove top. Wipe the loosened debris with a clean, microfiber cloth and repeat the steps as needed.

How To Clean Your Black Glass Stovetop

Cleaning your black gas stovetops requires extra care. The black glass stovetop is highly sensitive thus, you need an ample amount of patience to get it all cleaned up.

You need to mix baking soda and water together to form a paste.

Then add vinegar to this paste. This kind of cleaning solution is called the power paste because it will eventually break and cut through every tough greasy stain.

Do not use an abrasive sponge because during the course of scrubbing, the sponge may create scratches on the stovetop and this will destroy the black coating.

So avoid scrubbing. Just allow the baking soda, water, and vinegar mixture to sit for several minutes because the longer it sits, the better for the stovetop because the mixture will absorb the greasy stains.

Meanwhile, if you are worried that baking soda will scratch the surface of your stovetop, you can simply use liquid dish soap and water, or you can use a glass stovetop cleaner to get the job done for you.

Be careful with what you decide to use on your black glass stove top so that it doesnt produce long-term scratches.

Finally, get a microfiber cloth to wipe off the baking soda residue that will remain on your stovetop after you must have cleaned it.

    How to Remove Burnt

MY DD just bought a house and the spill plates aren’t worth salvaging but the stove itself though filthy is.

Wanting to make sure they don’t use anything that will scratch it, what will take the grease stains that got baked on outside of the drip pans.

I’ve read about baking soda and vinegar but not sure if the baking soda can scratch. Any other ideas?

Baking soda is the first cleaning product I reach for in my kitchen. I use so much of it, I try to buy it in 12 pound bags when I can.

It’s a good non-scratch scouring powder for the sink and range. If the spatters are stubborn, make a paste of bakign soda and water, spread on the stain, and let it sit a bit before scrubbing with something like a nylon scrubby . Baking soda takes that cooked-on gunky glaze off frying pans. I’ve even gotten grape juice and Koolaid stains out of white formica with it.

I always figure it’s best to start with a non-toxic cleaner before moving up to a more dangerous product. It’s very very rare that I ever have to go to a stronger cleaner. Baking soda is such an amazing product–it cleans, deoderizes, disinfects, isn’t toxic, doesn’t smell, is cheap and readily available–and you can even use it to brush your teeth or settle an acid stomach!
