Shipping Baked Goods Faqs
You know how to start a shipping service for your bakery. You even know how to package each of your bakery items for shipping. But you still have some questions, and were way ahead of you. From a list of baked goods that ship well to a bakery shipping supplies list, we outline the nitty-gritty details of shipping baked goods in this FAQs section.
Can You Ship Baked Goods Internationally
If youre asking yourself, How do I ship baked goods internationally for Mothers Day, then youve come to the right place. All the above couriers – USPS, UPS, and FedEx, will get your goods to international destinations across the world, including Canada, the EU, and Asia. You can even use USPS to send baked goods to military destinations.
The US only allows the shipping of baked goods if they are going from one individual to another. It must be marked as a gift on the customs form. So, if youre shipping to a relative in the US from Canada, do keep that in mind.
Some countries dont allow home-baked food items to be shipped at all. Australia, for example, only allows commercially-made and packaged goods with no raw parts through its mail service. Make sure you check that in advance. You may also need to consider taxes and duties if youre shipping cookies internationally. Dont forget, youll also need to fill out customs forms. Easyship can help you with this by automatically generating these for your shipments.

How To Pack Up Baked Goods For Shipping By Mail
Doubling up on packaging is essential. First, the box to hold the baking. Bakery boxes work, of course, however Tupperware or metal tins are preferable for airtight seals and reusable options. Choose appropriately sized containers to hold everything close. If there is headspace, fill with bubble wrap, balled up plastic wrap or parchment paper, so nothing tumbles if inverted. If you are concealing the interior contents with festive paper, make sure to include an open now tag so the recipient doesnt hesitate to unwrap.
Place the container inside a slightly larger shipping box. Stuff the surrounding gap with crumpled recyclable paper, scrap fabric, or an additional gifta scarf, gloves or rolled socks. When you think all is set, give the box a light shake, understanding the mailing process might not be as gentle. If nothing shifts with the movement, youre good to go.
Packing Baked Goods For The Mail
When packing your baked goods for transit, keep in mind that travel is, well, rough. Pack cookies tightly side by side in a sealed container, then place that container in a larger box for shipping. If there’s a significant size difference between your containers, try to cushion your package inside its shipping box. Use cushioning or padding or any other packing materials you might have.
If you’re a perpetual baker like us, you might want to grab a roll of “perishable” and/or “fragile” shipping stickers for any baked goods you intend to mail. While these may mean the same thing to a delivery person, the “perishable” sticker is especially helpful for your recipient. It lets them know their sweet treats have arrived, and it’s a good idea to open the box right away.
I love to hoard packages during the gift-giving season. But a perishable sticker is an immediate call out to open something right away. Hopefully that will save anyone from sadly perished cookies.

Consider Par Baking Your Bread For Shipping
Par baking stands for partially baking. To par-bake bread, bake the dough 80% of the way and then freeze the loaf. Quick freezing kills the yeasts future power and creates a stable inside without browning the crust. The customer can finish the bread by baking it for an additional 10-15 minutes when it arrives. This allows the customer to enjoy a truly fresh, perfectly browned, and warm loaf of bread.

What Is The Best Way To Send Cookies Through The Mail
You know those retro-looking cookie tins you see in craft sections at stores during the holidays? There’s a reason they are still popular! How To Ship Decorated Cookies
To prevent your cookies from crumbling in transit, use a food tin or box to protect them inside their shipping box. These extra protections are especially helpful for shipping fragile and decorated cookies.
Think Strategically About How And To When Ship
If you are doing weekend baking, the best time to ship is Monday or earlier in the week. Dont want to wait until late Friday night to drop off your package because there is a chance it will sit in the sorting facility over the weekend. Shipping can be costly, especially when it is expedited, but the best shipping option for perishable goods is overnight-air, next-day-air, or two-day-air. Its recommended that you pack all your goodies in a brand new box thats sealed with packing tape instead of duct tape or masking tape. Even though surprises are always great, its not the worst idea to alert the people you are shipping the baked goodies to, so they can look out for the package.

Dry Ice Handling Instructions
Why ship cookies with dry ice? Flash freezing cookies with dry ice makes sure theyll arrive in peak freshness. Theyll stay frozen 24 hours, which is enough time for them to ship overnight and arrive at your destination. This method of shipping cookies does require a few special tools and a little know how about how to handle dry ice. Here are some things to keep in mind when handling dry ice:
- Buy the dry ice 1 to 2 hours before you plan to use it. Dry ice does not last in the freezer or refrigerator, so youll need to use it as quick as possible.
- Never place dry ice inside airtight containers. When you get it home, place the plastic bag of dry ice in a cooler with the top off. Ventilation is key for dry ice, due to the carbon dioxide gas that is constantly released as it melts. Do not store it in a tightly sealed container to minimize risk of explosion.
- Always use gloves and tongs when handling dry ice. Do not touch dry ice with bare skin. It is extremely cold and touching it can cause frostbite or burns.
- Keep away from pets and children. Curious kids may try to touch the dry ice, so store it out of sight until youre ready to use. Parental supervision is required for this task!
