Elf Baked Highlighter Review

elf Baked Highlighter Review | Moonlight Pearls | Day 335 of Trying New Makeup

When I first attempted to swatch Moonlight Pearl, it almost landed in the trash and not by accident. I could barely get any pigment on my finger or brush, and had to go over about 10x to pick up enough product to create any noticeable kind of glow.

Heres a before and after of me using it dry on my cheeks. I used a dense domed brush to apply it, and went over my cheekbones 4 times.

Before

After

Despite the effort involved in applying this dry, once I had it built up to where I wanted it, it actually did create a very pretty and subtle glow thats wasnt too over-the-top with glitter or shimmer. It also lasted me all day and didnt easily transfer or rub off.

Fortunately, theres a way to get around the tedious application process, and thats to apply it wet, using a little setting spray or water. Using either of these methods, the highlighter quickly build ups to a vibrant luster in just 2-3 layers, and comes out looking even more gorgeous. I used that method in the photo below

Also note that, by this time, I had gotten past the top layer of pigment in the pan. After reading other reviews online, I discovered that this also plays a part in getting the best results the initial top layer is definitely harder and drier . Either way, if your highlighter is brand new, Id suggest using a paper towel to wipe off the first layer of product, then try it out!

Elf Baked Highlighter And Blush + Baked Highlighter And Bronzer

I featured the ELF Baked Highlighters on my blog back in May ahead of the ELF UK launch in the shades Blush Gems and Moonlight Pearls. They really are very pretty but they do have a slight design flaw as the powder is pressed too firmly that they have very sheer pigmentation when swatched initially. So you have to very lightly scratch the surface to remove the top layer to get the best results, and once youve removed the top surface they really are stunning.

I was very kindly sent the brand new ELF Baked Highlighter and Blush + Baked Highlighter and Bronzer as part of the #elfbeautysquad and I loved the idea of having a split blush/bronzer and highlighter and the shades looked very pretty. The ELF Baked Highlighter and Blush is in the shade Rose Gold, and the ELF Baked Highlighter and Bronzer is in the shade Bronzed Glow, and theyre both £5 on the ELF UK website.

The ELF Baked Highlighter and Blush + Baked Highlighter and Bronzer are packaged within the same packaging as the individual Baked Highlighters in a circular, plastic compact with clear domed lid. The baked powder is split into two with the highlighter on one side, and the blush/bronzer on the other.

Have you tried any of the ELF Baked Highlighters?
