Great British Bake Off: Where Are They Now?

The 1991 idents featured a numeral 2 at the centre of an initially art-related scene however, the idents moved away from this style as the station’s style changed. Although highly praised, this expansive set of idents was ended in November 2001. The was updated within the idents in October 1997, though the idents moved away from the original colour scheme in these latter years. The was introduced on 19 November 2001 and kept the same figure 2, but in a yellow background and given a personality. At the time, BBC Two became the first BBC channel to feature a box logo.

In 2007, BBC Two debuted , a “Window on the World”, with the 2 numeral providing that view. Introduced on 18 February 2007, the new look also had the channel adopt a teal-coloured box logo, featuring the BBC logo above the word TWO, now in the font .

In 2014, in honour of the channel’s 50th anniversary, some of the 1990s idents were re-introduced and from 2015, BBC Two opted to use nearly forty idents from the 19912001 set.

On 27 September 2018, the 19912001 idents were retired once again and BBC Two introduced a new set of idents, based on scenes incorporating a curve motif resembling the number 2. The new branding is designed to reflect BBC Two’s “constant evolution, constant eclecticism, constant sense of quality”. The new idents are produced by various artists and studios, including , and others. The new identity was developed by BBC Creative and Superunion.

Oven Doors & Whisking Must Be Filmed

In each episode, there is a Technical Challenge and Signature Challenge that each contestant must complete in order to make it to the next stage. During these key moments, we see close-ups and bakers demonstrating their skills and knowledge on each bake that has resulted in some of the best and worst recipes on The Great British Baking Show.

Fans may not know that there are six camera operators in the tent who try and catch as much as possible. But even they can miss some of the action. And whether it’s to see a contestant whisking or opening the oven door, they may have to be asked to do it again by the producer to make sure it is caught on camera, according to Radio Times.

The Great British Baking Show Has Its Own Illustrator

What Oven Do They Use On The Great British Bake Off?

Tom Hovey has worked for the show since its start in 2010 and has also produced the graphics for the show’s spin-offs, like “Junior Bake Off.” He has drawn over 3,000 baked goods.

After each episode is filmed, Hovey receives photos of the finished bakes and he spends about a week illustrating.

“My illustrations are a representation of what the bakers hope to create,” he told BBC. “Even if the bakers don’t produce what they’ve intended to, I have a degree of artistic license to make them look good.”

Illustrations Of The Bakers Ideas Are Done Post

As any Bake Off fan will know, before any signature or showstopper bake, viewers are treated to an artists impression of the bakers plans, courtesy of the shows own illustrator, Tom Hovey.

But though theyre presented as an illustration of an idea, the sketches are actually based on photos of the finished bakes, and are done after each episode has finished filming.

Tom told the BBC: I receive a pack of photos of the finished bakes from the set after each episode has been filmed that I use for reference.

I sketch out all the bakes quickly in pencil to get the details, form and shape I am after.

I then work these up by hand drawing them all in ink, then theyre scanned and coloured digitally, and then I add the titles and ingredient arrows. Its a fairly well streamlined process now.

Tom, who has been with the show since the very first series, has now illustrated more than 1,000 bakes.

The Oven From Great British Bake Off

Top 10 Toughest Great British Bake Off Challenges

If you’re a fan of The Great British Bake Off , you’ll know they’re pretty serious about their baking equipment.

After all, there’s nothing worse than the threat of soggy bottoms or sunken middles , and a baker is only as good as their tools!

As you’ve watched them bake up a storm in the tent, you may have noticed that the doors on the Great British Bake Off ovens are there one moment, and gone the next! This is not clever TV trickery, but NEFF’s very own Slide And Hide oven. The door to this oven simply pulls out and slides underneath.

And, there’s a whole heap of things to love about the slide and hide ovens:

  • These smart ovens are great for small kitchens, because you don’t need to consider oven door space.

  • Super easy to clean with ample access to every corner.

  • The most accessible oven on the market, which makes them perfect for wheelchair access.

  • You might think that you lose cavity space in the oven because of the door. However, the cavities are the same size as conventional ovens they just make the control panel much slimmer. So it’s a very clever design!

  • No more leaning awkwardly over the door to grab dinner makes them safer than a conventional oven, and nasty burns are largely a thing of the past.

It comes as no surprise that Britain’s most famous baking show opts for this design, year after year.

Television And Media Career

Hollywood has appeared in guest spots on a number of television programmes, including BBC One‘s The Generation Game, The Heaven and Earth Show,ITV‘s This Morning, and The Alan Titchmarsh Show. Since the show launched in 2010, Hollywood has been a judge on the BBC programme The Great British Bake Off. In this capacity, he has been described as the “antidote” to judges such as Len Goodman or Simon Cowell in other reality television programmes, on account of his straightforward and honest manner and because his judging is restricted purely to the finished product. His partnership with has been described in The Guardian as being the “secret weapon” of the show and potentially one of the best judging combinations to have appeared on reality television. In September 2016, Love Productions agreed to a three-year deal to move the show from the BBC to Channel 4. Hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins announced that they would not be moving to the new network, followed shortly after by Berry. On the same day as Berry, Hollywood announced that he would be staying with the show.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards named his 2005 book 100 Great Breads as the “Top Bread and Pastry Book” for that year.

In May and June 2017 he presented Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip. In December 2017, Hollywood appeared as a judge on The Great American Baking Show, the second incarnation of the GBBO series in the United States.

Each Oven Has To Be Tested Every Day

Itâs difficult enough to make a cake that Paul Hollywood wonât declare either under- or over-baked without having to worry about whether your oven is working properly. So for every day of filming, every oven has to be tested. And because this is a baking show, theyâre tested with cakes. Yes, every day every oven has a Victoria sponge cake cooked in it, to make sure everythingâs working exactly as it should be.

Can I Bribe You To Buy Us Some Time Ill Bribe You In Pie

Though Selasi was knocked out in the semi-final, he remains one of the most memorable characters from season 7. Selasi was well-liked by viewers and in the tent, where he was often cracking jokes and making the others smile even during tense moments. One of these came during a challenge with a particular tight timer.

Whilst others panicked and walked around looking for ways to distract themselves, Selasi took Mel aside and jokingly tried to secure some extra time to complete the challenge. A testament to his kindness, Selasi bribed her to give them all extra time rather than just himself. Sadly, though Mel said she was tempted, she was unable to accept his offer.

The Contestants Don’t Interact With The Judges Very Much

âThey very much tried to keep it unbiased,â Quinn said about how the bakers donât spend much time interacting with the judges. âWe saw a lot more of Mel and Sue. Mary and Paul would purely come in to do what we called the royal tourâwhere they’d come in and find out what you were making, and then they’d come back in for judging. You’re not in the same hotel having sleepovers! You form more of a relationship after the show when you see them at things like BBC Good Food or whateverâbut they need to keep their distance . They’re there as judges.”

Only A Third Of The Time Filming Is Actually Spent Baking

As a baking show, its no surprise that the baking and judging process takes up most of the shows runtime.

But for the bakers, its the other way around, with the baking actually taking up the least amount of time while filming the show.

According to season four baker Ali Imdad, the remainder of the time is spent doing beauty shots of the bakes, and reshoots of the contestants of bakers if a key moment is missed the first time.

The baking is filmed as you do it by six cameras moving around the tent, though if they dont catch something, like you whisking, you might have to do it again, he told the Birmingham Mail.

If someone fluffs a line during the judging, they will do retakes. Or if you said something and they didnt quite catch, they will ask you to say it again.

Prue Leith Leaked The Winner In 2017

In 2017, Prue ruined Christmas by accidentally revealing the Bake Off winner 12 hours before the show aired.

“No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie,” she tweeted and then swiftly deleted.

But the damage was done, and viewers were outraged about the spoiler.

Explaining her blunder, Prue said she was in Bhutan, South Asia, and thought the show had already aired in the UK.

“I thought that they got it six hours ago. I’m in too much of a state to talk about it. I f***** up,” she told PA.

Mary Berry Watched Breaking Bad Backstage

Although it looks pretty nonstop on screen, thereâs quite a bit of downtime during the showâs filming days. Especially for the showâs judges and hosts. Former judge Mary Berry had one unique way of passing the time: binge-watching Breaking Bad. âItâs shocking,â Berry toldThe Telegraph. âThen you get into it and you think: âHave I seen episode four or five?â You get hooked. Itâs better than motor racing, which Paul watchesâthough Iâd prefer Downton Abbey.â Sheâd apparently rope former hosts Mel and Sue into watching it with her on occasion. What better way to relax during a long day of baking than by watching Walter White, umm, baking?

The Platinum Pudding Competition

In January 2022 it was announced that Berry would chair and sit as a judge on , a nationwide baking competition launched throughout the United Kingdom on 10 January 2022 by , and The Big Jubilee Lunch to find a brand new pudding dedicated to as part of the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022 marking the of the accession of on 6 February 1952.

One Man Drew Over A Thousand Pictures

During the Signature Challenge, beautiful, hand-drawn pictures of each baker’s cake are shown, while presenter, Noel Fielding, describes the details and flavors that will go into it. Sometimes, these bakes are the same quality as these illustrations, but not always, and they could equally end in some of the biggest baking disasters on The Great British Baking Show.

According to Surrey Live, the artist responsible for these drawings has now done over 1,000 since being on the show and his name is Tom Hovey. After each episode is filmed, he will come up with the drawings based on some photographs and bring out the best of the bakes using his pencils, sketching them out and making them ready to be edited into the televised episodes.

Inside Bake Off 2020 Finalist Laura Adlingtons Home With All White Kitchen Huge Garden And Outside Pizza Oven

We sell the Neff oven in this article from Girl About Tech on the ...

WHEN Laura Adlington isn’t busy baking tasty treats in the Great British Bake Off tent, she can sit back and relax in her picture perfect home.

The popular Channel 4 show came to a close last night and the 31-year-old from Gravesend impressed the judges with her final showstopper after a disastrous signature and technical.

But it’s not just her baked goods that look amazing as Laura also has a very lovely home too.

The baker has given a sneak peek into her beautiful home that she shares with her husband and police community support officer Matt.

Her kitchen boasts pristine white cupboards, matching utensils and wooden work tops.

The cooking space is decorated with fresh flowers and hand written cards that fit in perfectly with the simple yet stylish interior.

But arguably her garden is the most impressive part of their humble abode.

It features a gorgeous koi pond, lavish outdoor seating and their very own outdoor pizza oven.

Matt took to Instagram last year to share some before and after pictures of the space and captioned the post: “I started planning the garden just over a year ago and can now finally say that it’s finished!

“It’s been a lot of hard work but so worth it and Laura and I can spend the summer enjoying it.

“The koi pond is 6ft deep and all the pipework and filters are hidden away.”

Laura’s passion for baking started when she was just eight-years-old, but admitted that it was only recently that she realised how good she actually is at it.
