Technically, yes, but according to experiments, microwaving bananas doesnt improve the flavor of the unripe bananas. Furthermore, it doesnt make them any sweeter. And that sweetness is exactly what you want them for!
So, its more like softening than ripening.
If youd like to try it, it tends to work better with a semi-ripe banana than a fully green one.

Use a fork and poke a few holes in the peel of the banana, then pull down a bit of the peel on all sides as well.
Pop the fruit in the microwave for about 1 minute or so, and once its done, youll find out just how easy it is to quickly ripen bananas. (Ive done this for banana bread, homemade banana ice cream, and other fun fruit recipes as well.
Just be certain that you let them cool once you take the ripe bananas from the microwaves.
