HOW TO CLEAN an OVEN easily – Cleaning baked on grease in oven

A casserole that has spilled over the edge, a leaky spring form tin a greasy oven is hard to avoid. The big question: how do you get rid of it? Scrubbing away with a sponge and some soapy water never seems to do the trick. The answer turns out to be really simple, though. All you need is a lemon!

With this trick, those nasty greasy stains will be history!

How does it work?

  • To start with, use the vacuum cleaner to get rid of all the loose crumbs and small pieces. Do remember to also vacuum the rubber seal around the door of the oven. A lot of crumbs get stuck in there.
  • Cut a lemon into slices and put them into a small, oven safe bowl.
  • Preheat the oven at 200 °C.
  • Once its preheated, put the bowl into the hot oven and leave it there for 10 minutes. The juices in the lemon will evaporate. This lemon steam will soak loose all of the grease.
  • All thats left to do now is cleaning away the grease with a damp microfiber cloth. Rinse out the cloth and repeat this step.
  • Leave the door of the oven open until everything has dried properly.

Stubborn stain? Some stains are simply too stubborn to clean this way. If youve got a few of those stubborn stains left after trying this trick, its time to call in the big guns. Take 30 grams of baking soda and add water until youve got a nice, thick paste. Rub this paste onto the stain. Let this sit for 15 to 30 minutes and then youll be able to easily scrub away the stain! Its as easy as that.

    Step 5

Spritz oven with a little distilled white vinegar to help remove any residue from the paste and wipe dry.

    Step 6

If the oven is particularly dirty with a lot of burnt-on grease, you may need to do this twice, or do touch-ups in spots. Generally this should work the first time though. Now your oven is ready for a fresh batch of cookies!

How To Clean An Oven: To Scrub Or Not To Scrub

When it came to doing the dirty work of cleaning my oven, there was one reality I didnt want to face: a little elbow grease was required.

I detest scrubbing . Some heavy duty chemical oven cleaners claim you can clean your oven without scrubbing, but I had two problems with that:

    1) These chemicals dont always work. Reviewers seem to be split on whether scrubbing was necessary.

Some people experienced that mysterious oven cleaning magic, but others definitely did not and had to resort to good old-fashioned physical labor to get their ovens clean.

    2) Even if the chemicals do work, its not worth the risk to me. I definitely dont want to fill my kitchen with fumes and chemicals, and then stick my head in the oven so I can breathe in a concentrated dose .

And if I probably have to scrub anyway, I might as well use a truly natural oven cleaner rather than expose my family to a bunch of dangerous chemicals.

In the end, I faced the fact that I hadnt cleaned my oven in six long yearssome scrubbing would be unavoidable. It was my penalty for serious oven neglect.

Luckily, it wasnt as difficult as I thought.

    How To Clean A Non

Heard of self-cleaning ovens? Well, they are a thing.

Self-cleaning oven heats up to a certain degree to incinerate whatever food is left inside. Then you can simply wipe it off with a damp dishcloth to remove the ashes.

It takes around 3-5 hours. If youre not in a rush this might be for you. But most of the time, its not used much as you have to sit around and wait because you shouldnt leave your home while the oven is on.

What if your oven is non-self cleaning?

    You DO have alternatives.

You can DIY a cleaning solution to get rid of the residues or you can simply get an oven-cleaning solution from stores.

The process doesnt take long as self-cleaning ovens. You just need to let the degreaser or any solution you use to sit for 15-20 minutes.

More Natural Cleaning Methods To Try

While researching oven rack cleaning I came across several other natural cleaning tutorials that seemed promising. Give these 3 tutorials a try if youre ready to move beyond plain old baking soda.

#1 Overnight in the Grass Oven Rack Cleaner

Directions: Lay warm or cool oven racks on grass overnight to loosen burned-on food and grease. In the morning wipe clean.

Assessment: I eagerly tried this old-school method, but it made very little difference on my grimy oven racks. Perhaps the problem was the time of year: I tried the method in autumn when my lawn was frosty overnight, I will try it again in summer when the lawn has more morning dew.

    #2 Dishwasher Detergent Bath

Directions: Place old towels in bathtub. Place the oven racks in bathtub, on top of the towels. Fill tub with enough hot water to cover the racks. Add one cup of powdered dishwasher detergent. Soak overnight. In the morning wipe clean and rinse the racks.

Assessment: Dishwasher detergent is designed to clean the type of messes left on oven racks so this method probably works great. However, using a cup of my favorite natural dish washing powder would cost around $5! Id rather not waste that much dishwasher detergent for one cleaning!

How To Deep Clean Your Oven With Baking Soda

Our easy tips will make this cleaning task a lot less daunting.

From sauces that bubbled over to drips of gooey cheese now burnt, your oven is a canvas for spills and splatters of all kinds. And when it comes to cleaning it, chances are you’re not. But tackling this appliance doesn’t have to be a heavy lift, and you don’t need to spend extra money on special cleaning products, either. In fact, all you need to make your oven sparkle again are two pantry staples, likely already in your kitchen: baking soda and vinegar.

“These ingredients are great, all-natural cleaning agents, especially in place of many conventional oven cleaners which can often leave harmful residual vapors in your oven,” says Melissa Poepping, natural cleaning expert and author of the Chemical Free Home series. Both non-toxic and safe to use around food surfaces, baking soda and vinegar work together to help lift off stubborn stains and grease for easy wiping. Smell of vinegar turn you off? Poepping says you can easily enhance your homemade cleaners with two to three drops of essential oil, particularly tea tree oil which can act as a natural degreaser. “For cleaning the oven glass, I also like to make a spray of equal parts water and distilled white vinegar with a few drops of added lemon oil for scent,” she says.
