What Will Patients Need To Do

NCH patients who have electronic access through MyNCH Health Portal will receive an electronic notice of the change, according to NCH spokeswoman Amanda Lucey.

Existing patients who have the MyNCH Health Portal will need to set up new electronic access, she said, adding that they will get instructions.

More than 1.1 million records are being converted from Cerner to Epic involving patients who have been treated by NCH in the past three years, Lucey said.

All other patients are being migrated to an archival platform in accordance with data retention standards, she said.

The go-live move is systemwide, which means all locations will be taken offline at 12:01 a.m. June 4 and Epic will go live around 4 a.m. the same day, she said.

There is a planned four-hour downtime to convert from Cerner to Epic, she said. Data migration will continue for several weeks after the June 4 go live. The current system will still be available while data is being migrated.

Roughly 4,300 NCH employees are being trained on the new Epic system where the amount of training varies by role but averages four hours per individual, Lucey said.

The health information management department is dedicated to the integrity and security of your private health information in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Health records are retained for a period of ten years after your last date of service or final treatment. Patients have the right to review their health record, for an appointment please call . Please be advised that we will not be able to interpret the clinical documented information on the patients record. After the patient reviewed their record, there will still be a fee for receiving copies of their record. However, there is no fee when the records are sent directly to another healthcare provider for the purposes of continuity of care.

Requesting Copies Of Medical Records From Nch Healthcare System And/or Nch Physician Group

For the convenience of our patients and/or their legal guardians, you now have the option to request and receive copies of your medical records online. The online option often provides a faster turnaround of your request as it eliminates the delays caused by traditional mail. Please note that radiology and cardiology images can be requested online but electronic delivery is not available at this time. The encrypted CD/DVD can either be picked up at our 1100 Immokalee Road location in Naples or it can be mailed. In order to request your medical records online you must have the following:

• You must be 18 years or older
• Have a smartphone with a camera and texting capability
• Have a valid drivers license or other official government issued picture ID to request medical records online
• Legal guardians or healthcare proxies will need to upload a PDF or TIF copy of court-appointed guardianship papers, power of attorney, or other appropriate legal documents that can establish proof of guardianship
• Next of kin requesting copies of a deceased patients medical record will need to upload a PDF or TIF copy of the official death certificate. Next of kin begins with the surviving spouse. If there is no spouse, the request can be made by an adult member of the deceased patients immediate family.

Medical Record Copy Fees

A fee for medical record copies may apply. A patient whose records are copied and sent to another healthcare provider for the purposes of continuing medical care does not pay a fee for medical record copies. Request for medical record copies for any use other than medical care may be subject to a fee. The HIPAA Privacy Rule permits healthcare providers to impose a reasonable, cost-based fee to an individual requesting a copy of medical records. Patients or the patients legal guardian will be notified if any fees apply prior to the request being processed.

Epic Has The Bulk Of The Market

The Madison, Wisconsin-based Epic currently is used for records of 250 million patients in the U.S. and is the largest vendor for electronic medical records, according to KLAS Research. Epic reported $3.8 billion in revenue last year.

The company had 33% of the hospital market for electronic medical records as of the end of 2021, followed by Cerner with 24% and Meditech at third with 16.7% of the market, according to KLAS. The other vendors with market share include CPSI, Allscripts and Medhost.

Epic gained 74 hospitals last year for electronic medical records, according to KLAS.

Walmart announced last year it is using Epic for electronic health records for patients when it opens four Walmart health centers in Florida this year.

Dr. Cheryl Pegus, executive vice president of Walmart Health & Wellness, said at the time that Walmarts vision is to provide a seamless experience for customers and its partners in offering medical services.

Nch Downtown Naples Hospital Renamed For Big Donors

NCH Healthcare System, which operates the largest hospitals in Collier County, has renamed its Downtown Naples Hospital in honor of two of its largest private donors.

At an event Saturday, hospital officials announced the Naples health center will now be called NCH Baker Hospital, after Naples residents Jay and Patty Baker. Jay Baker is former president of Kohl’s Corp. in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and Patty Baker is a Tony Award-winning Broadway producer.

The couple has donated more than $23 million to NCH, including a recent $15 million contribution earmarked for upgrades to surgical services at the downtown hospital and the expansion of NCH’s palliative care program, said Jim Martin, chief development officer for NCH.

The Bakers’ other major contributions include a $10 million endowment for what is now The Baker Museum in 2007 $15 million to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, in Philadelphia, in 2010 $10 million to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2014 and $15 million to Hunter College in New York to aid its theater department, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

“They’re just very generous people, and they’re doing a lot of good around the country,” Martin said. “You want to recognize such strong philanthropy.”

Both released statements in advance of Saturday’s event praising NCH and its role in the community.

The private, not-for-profit NCH Healthcare System operates a combined 713 patient beds at its two Naples hospitals.
