This recipe uses 3/4 thick boneless chops, if your chops are thicker or thinner, the time will need to be adjusted.

The brine keeps these tender and adds flavor. If you skip the brine you will need to add salt to the rub.

Do not overcook! Use a meat thermometer to ensure the pork reaches the right temperature without overcooking.

Pork should reach 145°F, just like pork tenderloin, its ok if the chops are a little bit pink in the middle.

Tip: Choose pork chops uniform in size and thickness so they all cook at the same rate.

Remember that all ovens can be a bit different, so your cooking time may vary slightly. The most important thing is that the pork is cooked to a specific temperature for safe eating. So be sure to check internal temperatures as you cook.

How Long Should Chops Be Cooked For

    Breaded Oven Baked Pork Chops

If youre thinking of cooking chops for the first time, its a good idea to start with a few simple tips. First, let them rest in a warm oven before cooking.

Secondly, make sure they are well-brined before cooki ng this will help keep them juicy and firm. Finally, dont overcook your chops they should be cooked until theyre just tender and slightly pink in the center.

How To Make Baked Breaded Pork Chops

To make the whole process easier, prepare your baking sheet, place your ingredients in separate shallow bowls or pie plates, and place them in an assembly line on your counter.

You can season the bread crumbs in the bowl.

Then begin breading your pork chops. First, pat each pork chop dry using paper towels.

Then, dip pork chops into the beaten egg mixture.

Shake off excess beaten egg from the pork chop. Then, dip it into the seasoned bread crumbs mixture.

So, how do you get breading to stick to pork chops? The egg wash helps the breading to stick to the pork chops.

I also like to press the breadcrumbs into the pork. This helps it stick better.

Just don’t be tempted to pile too much breading onto the chops. The breading on top will brown, but the breading closer to the chops will be a little soggy.

I like to line the baking sheets with foil or parchment paper. But that’s optional. I’m just all about easy clean-up!

Spread about 1 teaspoon of olive oil or vegetable oil over the baking sheet. You just need enough oil to lightly cover the baking sheet. Or, spray it with non stick cooking spray.

This will help prevent the crumbs from sticking. If you apply a very light layer, the crumbs won’t get soggy!

Next, lightly spray the tops of the pork chops with cooking spray or olive oil spray. This helps the breadcrumbs turn golden brown as they bake. You can also drizzle melted butter over the chops if you want.

What Do I Need To Make It

Heres what youll need to make the panko Parmesan baked pork chops recipe.

    • Panko Bread Crumbs these Japanese style bread crumbs are wonderful for their light flaky texture and the extra crispiness they offer to foods that are fried.or baked. If you dont have Panko then dont sweat it. Just use regular bread crumbs instead.
    • Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese the fresh grated cheese adds wonderful flavor. Dont have a Parmesan wedge to grate, just use the pre-grated variety. I do love keeping a small wedge of Parmesan on hand to grate myself. It is delicious but is a bit pricey. I find that it does last quite a while though.
    • Mayonnaise a small amount of your favorite mayonnaise is the perfect coating for the pork chops so that the breading mixture adheres to the pork. I prefer Dukes mayo as my brand of choice because of the extra egginess and twang.
    • Pork Chops boneless or bone in work well. Just use what your family enjoys most. Bone in tend to cook a tad bit faster and have more flavor. Boneless are often preferred and easy to handle, particularly for kids. I had one pound of pork chops, which was 4 boneless that were about an inch thick.
    • Salt and Pepper to season the pork chops.
    • Baking Sheet lined with foil for easy clean up.
    • Cooking Rack like an oven safe cooling rack to elevate the pork chops for air circulation.
    • Cooking Spray I used regular ole Pam to lightly spray the tops before baking to help with browning.

Can You Cook Pork Chops In A Frying Pan

If youre wondering if you can cook pork chops in a frying pan, the answer is yes though it may take some practice. Pork chops are a popular dish to cook in a frying pan, as they are succulent and tender.

However, be sure to use a non-stick or non-coated pan when cooking this type of meat, as your pork chops will not brown evenly and will be dry.

    Storage & Reheating Tips

Easy Oven Baked Pork Chops (Juicy and Tender)

Leftover pork chops should be promptly refrigerated in an airtight container. Theyll keep in the fridge for three to four days or in the freezer for a few months. Thaw them overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

The breading on reheated pork chops tends to lose its crispiness. The best way to reheat them is to put them in your air fryer for a few minutes or in the toaster oven until they are just heated through. Try not to overheat them they may become tougher and dry.

How To Test Pork Chops For Doneness

The English Kitchen: Oven Baked Breaded Pork Chops

To check the temperature, insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the chop . The thickness of a pork chop will determine its final cooking time, regardless of whether it’s boneless or bone-in. Chops typically range in thickness from ¾ inch to 1½ inches. The USDA updated its doneness guidelines in 2011, noting that pork cooked to 145 degrees Fahrenheit is just as safe as pork cooked to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. At this doneness, the pork is pinker than many people are used to, but the meat is juicier and more flavorful. If you’d rather, you can always cook your pork chop to the previous standard of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

What Is The Best Kind Of Pork Chop To Use For This Recipe

The best kind of pork to use for this recipe is boneless chops. One of the great things about this recipe, is that you can buy a whole pork tenderloin and cut it into chops quite easily!

You could definitely use bone in pork chops for this recipe, but please keep in mind that you’ll need to add more time for them to bake. For the sake of ease and simplicity, I prefer to use boneless chops for this recipe.

    About Breaded Pork Chops

Why use buttermilk for a marinade? Buttermilk is slightly acidic and has enzymes which help tenderize the pork. Its a gentle marinade and it wont make the pork mushy if you want to marinate the pork overnight. Plus, a buttermilk marinade is very easy, just pour it on, nothing to mix up. I use a similar marinade for my easy baked chicken parmesan.

After the pork has marinated, remove it from the marinade and let the excess drip off. You dont have to wipe it off. The buttermilk that remains on the pork chops will help the breading stick.

Mix the breading ingredients together: panko, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, mustard powder, salt and pepper. Use a shallow bowl so you have room to dredge the pork chops in it. Press one chop at a time, both sides, in the breading mixture. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking rack set inside a baking pan .

Many little tricks ensure that this pork chop recipe is the perfect weeknight meal. From properly seasoning the breadcrumbs, browning the chops on the stove first to create a crispy crust, and then finishing them in the oven to keep them moist and juicy.

Be sure to choose pork chops that are center cut and at least 1-inch thick, as thinner chops will require less cooking time and can easily dry out. Youll know the chops are ready when a meat thermometer inserted in the center reads 145 F. Dont skip the step of reading internal temperature as this is the only real way to ensure you havent under- or over-cooked your chops.

These pork chops are delicious served with scalloped or mashed potatoes, a chopped salad, roasted carrots, or baked mac and cheese.

Breaded anything works well in my family and these pork chops are no exception. Roast a vegetable alongside them in the oven and you have a great weeknight meal in under 30 minutes. Be sure to check the temperature of the chops after 10 minutes so they dont overcook. Carrie Parente

How to make Breaded Oven Baked Pork Chops

Pork chops can be put in an air tight container and stored in the refrigerator for around 3 days. The tricky part about reheating breaded foods is to keep the crust from getting soggy. I find this is the best method:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick spray.
  • Place the chops in an even layer on the prepared sheet and mist the chops with nonstick spray.
  • Bake for around 4 to 5 minutes, then flip them over and continue cooking for another 4 to 5 minutes.

  • Combine breading. No need for anything fancy, just a shallow bowl and a fork.
  • Add mayo. All you need is a thin layer.
  • Press into breadcrumbs. Press fairly firmly to get a good crust.
  • Add mayo again. Again, just a thin layer.
  • Add breadcrumbs. Sprinkle breading mixture over the top of the mayo, then press gently to adhere.
  • Bake. The exact baking time will depend on your oven and the thickness of your chops, but 18-20 minutes is a good ballpark.
  • Do You Cover Pork Chops When Baking Them

That is a question many people ask. There are many reasons why people might choose not to cover pork chops when baking them.

Some people think it is an unnecessary step, because they do not think the cooking process will cause any damage to the meat. Others feel that covering the pork chops will add flavor and convenience to the recipe.

Ultimately, it is up to the individual chef to decide what they believe is necessary for their own cookbook or meal.
