What can I use in place of the peanut butter?

You can also use cashew butter or almond butter. If allergic to tree nuts, you can use also sunflower butter.

Can I use a different flour?

So I have only tested this recipe with oat flour and all-purpose flour I have not tried it with almond flour but it should work too. I would not recommend using coconut flour for this recipe.

How to heat treat if using all-purpose flour?

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the flour onto a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes then set aside to cool completely

Can I use a different kind of protein powder?

I have only tested this recipe with PEScience, which is a casein + whey protein blend. I have not tried this recipe with strictly a milk protein isolate or whey protein isolate.

My cookie dough mixture feels too dry/crumbly?

Not all protein powders have the same consistency and some will absorb liquid more easier than others, which might cause your cookie dough mixture to seem a little dry or crumbly. Just add a little water or milk, about a teaspoon at a time, until it gets to cookie dough consistency. Add liquid slowly you also dont want to over due it!

How To Make Homemade Protein Bars

  • Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Add the chocolate chips to a bowl and heat in 20-30 seconds intervals, stirring in between, until melted.
  • Pour the melted chocolate into the bottom of the pan lined with parchment paper use a small spatula to spread out evenly. Add to the freezer until the chocolate hardens, about 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile to a medium-sized bowl, add the protein powder, oat flour, oats, sweetener, brown sugar, peanut butter, vanilla, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients well to combine. Then fold in half of the M& Ms.
  • Add the cookie dough on top of the chocolate layer and spread out evenly/press down well. I used a piece of parchment paper sprayed with nonstick cooking spray to press the dough down and prevent sticking.
  • Add the remainder of the M& Ms across the top and press down one last time.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before slicing and enjoy. They get better the longer they sit in the fridge!
  • You can also double or half this recipe if you wish! To double, use a 9×13-inch dish. To half, use a loaf pan.

    How To Store Healthy No Bake Protein Cookies

    Storing: Store the cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. If you plan to stack them in the container, place them between layers of parchment paper to avoid sticking.

    Freeze: These freeze for up to three months. First, flash freeze them on a baking tray until solid. Then transfer them to a Ziplock bag, squeezing out excess air.

    Allow them to thaw at room temperature or in the fridge until soft enough to enjoy.

    If your protein powder is not sweet enough, you might need some more maple syrup, or use stevia sweetener instead.

    How To Make The Best Protein Cookies

    No Bake Protein Cookies

    Gather all of your ingredients.

    If the nut butter is not already easily stir-able , gently warm it to soften.

    Combine the nut butter with all of the remaining ingredients, and stir to form a cookie dough texture.

    Break into four pieces, and roll each piece into a ball. Then press into cookie shapes with your hands or the bottom of a spoon.

    You can also press some chocolate chips into the unbaked cookies at this time.

    Eat the no bake cookies as-is, or proceed to the next step for baking instructions.

    Place on a cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper if desired, and bake for eight minutes on the oven center rack at 350 degrees Fahrenheit .

    Let cool before handling, because they firm up as they cool. Store leftover cookies in an airtight covered container on the counter, in the refrigerator, or in the freezer.

    What Is A Good Substitution For Protein Powder

    The protein powder is what helps give these cookies a protein boost. KaChava, the protein I used also has carbs and fat, so if you dont want that, you can use whatever kind you like. Just note it will change up the nutritional break down and macros some.

    I understand that not everyone likes protein powder or uses it. Some substitutions that you can use for protein powder are:

    • flour coconut, whole wheat, almond, oat flour, or whatever kind you like!
    • oats you can always add more oats to help absorb the liquid

    I havent tried these, so I am not sure if they work. You will have to play around with it some until you get the consistency you like. Again, just note this will change up the macros.

    Store the cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. If stacking them, place baking paper between layers to ensure they dont stick together. That way, you can easily make a quick grab for one for when the need arises.

    If you dont want to eat them all within the week, you could also store them in the freezer. Wrap individually, and then you can take out single ones whenever you want.

    Store for 3-4 weeks in the freezer.

    Leave a frozen cookie to defrost on the worktop for 20-30 minutes , and its good to go.

    For example, I have a recipe for No-Bake Brownies, which you might think are the same as no-bake chocolate cookies, but they are quite different! Brownies require a different consistency than cookies, so I wanted to make sure that these resembled actual cookies.

    Likewise, I didnt want to just take no-bake cookie dough that I had created and form that into cookies. It wouldnt quite be the same.     Simply add the dry ingredients to a large bowl, mix those up, and then add in the butter and vanilla extract.

    You can substitute vanilla protein powder plus two additional Tablespoons of cocoa powder for chocolate protein powder. If you prefer not to use any protein powder simply increase the quick oats by 1/4 cup.

    Because there are so many different types of protein powders and they do not all act the exact same way in recipes, some types of protein powder may require more nut butter if your dough is too dry or more protein powder if its too wet.

    Dont want to use protein powder for the cookies? Feel free to substitute an equal amount of oat flour for the protein powder. Or experiment to find the ideal amount of coconut flour or almond flour to use as a substitute. If using coconut flour, you will need much less.

    If using honey, agave, or pure maple syrup instead of sugar, you may need to add more protein powder, a little at a time, to achieve a cookie dough texture.
