Review Of The Fresh Market

New Publix opens in Dunwoody

A good place to get the family food before the beach! Plenty of fresh food! The bakery is one of the best!

Shop there a few times. Prices are over the top. Very expensive especially their meats. If your looking for unusual foods you will find it here. Not the type of grocery store to shop on a budget. Besides all that, it is fun to shop there looking for foods you will not find any where else. Deli is very good with pre-made salads.

If you prefer the exotic, hard to find or purely organic culinary things for your table, this is the place for you. Think upscale Trader Joe’s and you get the concept.

I shop at Fresh Market for the good produce, great selection of coffees, and cheese that is hard to find. Also, they have things no one else carries. The only negative is that the prices are higher than elsewhere for normal things, buy the selection is outstanding and the staff are helpful. The location is good and near the Blake Library so I can do both things in one trip. If you have not tried it, do so. You will be amazed at the wide selection.

Customers Will See Changes Soon At The Super Target And Costco As Well As At The Publix Super Market At Okeechobee And Royal Palm Beach Boulevards

ROYAL PALM BEACH The village’s oldest Publix Super Market soon will be demolished and rebuilt following a prototype used only at one other store in Florida, according to plans presented to Royal Palm Beach officials.

The project was planned before the fatal shootings of a woman and her grandson pushed the store, at The Crossroads shopping plaza at Okeechobee and Royal Palm Beach boulevards, into the national spotlight.

The store will remain open until some time in the fall. It expects to set a closing date prior to Thanksgiving if it can obtain a building permit in time, said Robert Williams, a store representative. Otherwise, the closing which would last for several months will occur in early 2022.

The grocery store is not the only area retail destination undergoing a makeover. The Super Target just east of it on Okeechobee is getting a makeover that will reflect the stores name even more. And the village’s Costco will soon add more pumps to its gas station.

Super Target Costco To Stay Open During Renovations

The Cobblestone Village Super Target, 2 miles east of Publix at Okeechobee and State Road 7, already is undergoing interior renovations.

A Target spokesperson explained that the remodel, which began earlier this month, will make shopping easier, safer, and more inspiring for guests.

The remodeled store will include:

  • Modern fixtures, mannequins, and LED lighting.
  • Merchandise displays throughout the store, such as home, apparel, and beauty.
  • A designated nursing space.
  • Front-of-the-store renovations that promote guest and employee safety, such as expanded checkout lanes, plexiglass barriers, and contactless self-checkout.

The store will remain open to shoppers during the remodeling process, which will be complete by this fall.

Costcos gas station on Southern Boulevard west of State Road 7 will also undergo renovations of its own this year.

Scott Beckman, a company representative, said the gas station will add six fueling stations to its existing 12, and that the project will take a total of seven weeks to complete.

Since renovations will occur one section at a time, people will still be able to fuel up at the station.

Food Is Just The Beginning

Feeding the hungry has always been the cornerstone of the agency, but food is just the beginning then and now.

An article in the Nov. 16, 1988, issue of the Stuart News called the agency a seed-planting organization that gives people tools for rebuilding their lives. Were here to help people in distress, then-executive director Jack Raisch said. Many need educational and vocational counseling, and we try to interest them in adult education.

The 1988 article stated that the agency is funded solely through donations, staffed by 50 volunteers and serves 300 people per month. At that time, the agency had three facilities:

  • A main office at 940 NE Commercial St., Jensen Beach.
  • A shelter at 506 Camden St., Stuart, with beds for six men and a cottage for a family.
  • A food pantry and clothing distribution center at 201 W. Ocean Blvd., Stuart.

The agency leadership always had the dream to consolidate services in one location.

At one time, it looked like two buildings in downtown Stuart the historic Woodmen Hall and the former Reeds Carpet Store might become the hub for the agencys food and clothing distribution, homeless shelter and administrative offices. In 1987, The Stuart City Council granted a three-year lease and a zoning exception to allow a 10-bed shelter in Woodmen Hall on Akron Avenue. Those plans apparently never came to fruition.

New Publix At Baker Road And Us 1 Draws Excited Shoppers

STUART? Customers waited in line for parking spots Saturday at the packed Publix Supermarket at Baker Road and U.S. 1 to take advantage of the new location’s grand opening.

The brand new 39,000-square-foot facility opened its doors at 7 a.m. to increase the number of Lakeland-based supermarkets between Fort Pierce and Hobe Sound to 20.

The Stuart location includes traditional grocery store amenities and a pharmacy, and will temporarily replace the Publix at Ocean Breeze Plaza on Jensen Beach Blvd., which closed Friday at 7 p.m. to undergo a store expansion from 37,000 to 45,000 square feet.

Both stores will remain open after the Jensen Beach location is renovated.

Residents closer to U.S. 1, however, have long anticipated seeing the new grocery store so close to their homes finally open for business.

“I’m excited because it means I can walk here,” said Christina McIntosh, 36, who lives in nearby Jensen Beach Estates. “I love the fact that it’s so close.”

The first 1,500 customers Saturday received a free reusable Publix shopping bag, numerous buy one, get one free offers were in effect and employees gave out free samples throughout the store.

And while mom and dad shopped, kids like Serena and Hudson Nauman chowed down on their $1 Boar’s Head hot dogs and slurped their free Publix-brand sodas.

“It’s very nice inside,” said Bethany Nauman, 33, of Stuart. “They have a good stock of organic food. There is a lot of stuff here you can only get at Publix.”

House Of Hope History

Unknown Hinson public access “Party Favors”

House of Hope was founded in 1984 by a handful of volunteers who saw people suffering in our community and decided to do something about it. They opened their homes to offer hot meals and fellowship, and they made sandwiches to hand out to people on the street.

The agency had a homeless shelter at 506 Camden St., Stuart, in the late 1980s.

The agency grew over the years, operating out of houses and storefronts in Jensen Beach and Stuart.

In 1994, thanks to the generosity of Lewis and Joan Madeira, the agency was able to build a permanent home at 2484 SE Bonita Street, in the Golden Gate area of Stuart. Through several renovations and expansions over the years, the Bonita Street building continues to house the agencys central service center, food distribution hub and administrative offices.

The agency also gradually added full-service branches in Hobe Sound, Indiantown and Jensen Beach over the years. A stand-alone thrift store was opened on Federal Highway in November 2014.

Following the economic downturn of 2008, House of Hope enhanced its program services by adding case management helping people develop their life skills to work toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.

Its a long way from those first sandwiches given out more than 30 years ago, but the services are performed with the same spirit lifting people out of the pain and stress of hunger and hardship.

New Store To Be 6600 Square Feet Bigger Include New Features

The Publix has been the anchor at The Crossroads for nearly 35 years but recently warned that it would part ways if its outdated look could not be revamped.

Publix needed three variances from the village for the project. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved them May 25 and the Village Council on July 17. Both votes were unanimous.

The existing store will be replaced with a 55,000-square-foot space that will add 6,600 square feet, as well as a new entrance at the center of the store, a covered pedestrian walkway, added landscaping and an enclosed loading dock.

At the request of the village staff, the project will also include three pedestrian walkways and an Art in Public Places installation at the corner of the plaza.

The project will take about a year from the time there is a building permit in hand to when there is a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Williams says with the cooperation of the village, he hopes to have a building permit by the first week of October.

Upon completion of the project, this Publix will be Florida’s second prototype store, after the one in Port St. Lucie that opened in April.

The newly renovated store will feature the wider aisles and higher ceilings that were common in the old Greenwise Publix stores.

Lhotta says a much more spacious store is particularly important being that the region is nearing the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
