It will stay fresh in the refrigerator for about 6 months or in the freezer for up to a year.

Since the nuts are blanched before theyre ground, the flour doesnt have a very strong, distinctive almond flavor, but its not completely lacking in it, either. The best way to describe it may be to say that it adds a gentle, slightly nutty aroma to what youre making. When used as the main ingredient, an identifiable almond note will no doubt come through.

Unlike flour milled from grains, its okay to eat almond flour raw, so go ahead and taste a bit of it if youre interested.

How To Make Brownies With Almond Flour

Making these fudgy brownies with almond flour has 6 folds:

  • Preheat Oven to 350 Degrees: And line an 8X8 square pan with parchment paper.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: Whisk together almond flour and cocoa powder in a large mixing bowl until homogeneous, and no lumps remain.
  • Add Wet Ingredients: Add coconut oil, maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract to the bowl of dry ingredients, and whisk until fully incorporated.
  • Add the Nuts: Fold in half a cup of the nuts.
  • Prepare to Bake: Transfer the raw batter into the prepared pan, and spread it out evenly using a spatula. Sprinkle it with the rest of the walnuts.
  • Bake: Cook them for 35-40 minutes in your prepared oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean . Allow the brownies to cool for 5 minutes, and remove them from the pan onto a wire rack. Let it cool to room temperature before slicing to avoid them falling apart. Serve with coffee, milk or plant-based milks such as almond milk.

So there are a whole range of factors you need to account for when adapting a wheat-based recipe to low carb and gluten-free. You need to consider the texture, density, and moisture content of the baked good you want to make over.

    A cup of almond flour also differs significantly in weight from a cup of wheat flour. Out of curiosity, I just went and measured the two and a cup of wheat flour came to 5 oz, while a cup of Bobs Red Mill blanched almond flour came to 3.75 oz. Thats more than a full ounce difference!

    If you are a total beginner with almond flour, Id actually suggest you stick to some tried and true recipes to get a feel for how it behaves and the overall proportions. Thats certainly how I started, 2 and ½ years ago. Once you have a good sense for almond flour recipes, you will find it easier to strike out on your own and adapt some family favourites.

    What Brand Of Almond Flour Is Best For These Paleo Pancakes With Almond Flour

    I have been testing this recipe for over 3 months now and have tried this with three different almond flour, two of which are popular brands that are available throughout the US.

    On my first try, I grounded my own almond flour made from blanched almonds using my Vitamix blender using the method I outlined in my How To Make Almond Flour post. The recipe below worked perfectly and delivered perfect almond flour pancakes.

    On my second testing, I used Trader Joes packaged almond meal and it was very similar to the first version except that the color was darker as the almond meal is made from almonds with the skin on. On my third testing, I used Bob Red Mills superfine almond flour . The batter made with superfine almond flour was thicker compared to the other two versions. Therefore, I had to add in 2 to 3 more tablespoons of almond milk to the batter to make it a little runnier.

    With that being said, if you decide not to add in more liquid you would still have great pancakes, but your batter would be thicker delivering thicker pancakes.

  • Make two batches of the same cake
  • Place them on a wire rack and let cool to room temperature.
  • Place the first layer of cake in the middle of a large plate , spread half of the chocolate frosting evenly over the top. Place the second layer on top. Spread the rest of the chocolate frosting and garnish with strawberries
  • Because I like that deep chocolate flavor, I used chocolate frosting, but you can use whipped cream to layer as well.
