Five years later, there isn’t a subway-riding adult in New York who hasn’t seen an ad for 1-800-DIVORCE, with the O formed by a diamond ring and a woman’s hand to the side making a tossing motion. ”When diamonds aren’t forever,” the poster says. There is also 1-800-INNOCENT , with two cuffed hands and a chain.

And it’s been fun, Mr. Wilens said. But now, while the 1-800 posters will live on, he is trying something subtler, with dignified pastels and a simple logo designed to send a message to those who wonder: What kind of law firm rents subway space amid all those pitches to a public troubled by warts and hammertoes?
