Of course, no discussion on farmhouse style would be complete without mentioning shiplap. Of course, true shiplap is a type of wooden board used commonly as exterior siding in the construction of residences, barns, sheds, and outbuildings or a rough-sawn pine paneling often used in barns and historic homes . But most of us arent so lucky as to live in old or historic homes that have true shiplap hiding beneath the drywall, so we have to fake it with simple horizontal planking. Weve shiplapped a few walls in our homes, including a bathroom with pine tongue and groove planking and a kitchen and laundry room with cheap plywood cut into strips.
An Apple Peeler Is A Great Kitchen Tool
I do have a confession to make. I had help peeling and slicing the apples. No it wasnt in the form of a sous chef. My daughter refuses to take on that role. It is this little gem of a kitchen gadget. An apple peeler that will also slice and core the apple. I just love kitchen gadgets.
I found this little gem at World Market for $10.00. Bargain, right. It works fabulously.
The apple is inserted onto the prongs and then you turn the handle. The apple is slowly peeled and then sliced into perfect rings.
I then sliced the rings into small chunks before adding to my muffin mixture.
With the help of my apple peeler, I will be making these apple cinnamon muffins more often. They are perfect for breakfast or a mid morning snack. Plus they are great in a lunch box. Its the little things that make me jump for joy.

My favorite time of year to decorate my home is Spring. Everything is so bright and beautiful in the Spring as the flowers begin to bloom again. The focus is on soft florals, bright whites, and natural elements.

Setting a festive light and bright Spring table setting always makes me happy. After a cold winter, it always lifts my mood to bring out the vibrant flowers and white linens.
It doesn’t have to cost much money to decorate a table. I tend to use my white plates over and over again throughout the seasons. I found the large charger plate at IKEA for such a great deal. The ruffle edged salad plates bring a whimsical feel.
I found the ruffled burlap placemats at Pier 1 Imports. They are so unique and the ruffle accents are perfect for Spring. The chambray napkins were found at Home Goods for $4.99 for a package of 4. Such a steal!
The GATHER napkin rings are from the Magnolia Heart and Hand Collection by Joanna Gaines at Target. I use them on all of my napkins. You wouldn’t believe what you can find right outside your door for adding flowers or herbs to your table. I picked these yellow ball flowers from a parking lot and am known to snip a few rosemary stems from our community bushes. Adding some simple flowers, leaves, or herbs can make it looks so pretty.

Diy Fresh Baked Pie Window Sign
I have to admit, when I first saw the infamous fresh baked pie window sign at my moms house, I was sure that she picked it up at a local craft shop. It was super adorable, slightly distressed and looked like DIY project that had been repurposed into a sign. But I was so wrong!
DIY Fresh Baked Pie Window Sign with DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint for Glass
I designed a vinyl stencil for my sign with my Silhouette Cameo machine and tried this project a few times using regular old latex paint but nothing would stick on the glass. Plus, it took several coats to make it look opaque. Boo.
Then I discovered Americana Chalky Finish for Glass paint by Deco Art Its an ultra-matte acrylic paint that easily adheres to glass. This was exactly what I needed!
I chose some paint colors that looked a little retro to me: Relic , Vintage , and Everlasting .
After my mishap with regular latex, I was amazed at how well this paint worked on the glass. It only took two light coats to be opaque and dried very quickly. It really does have a chalky texture just like the paint I use on furniture.
I wanted my sign to be reminiscent of an age-old diner window, with the words slightly rubbing off. Once the paint was dry, I just took a little light grit sandpaper and gently rubbed at the painted areas.
I couldnt be happier with how this DIY painted window project turned out! I love that I was able to replicate it with a repurposed window too!

How To Make A Glass Sign
I used my Cricut® to make this stencil. You can also use a Silhouette or your favorite cutting machine. Dont have a cutting machine? You can also make a stencil using freezer paper and an exacto knife.
What you need to make this DIY glass sign:
Create Your Stencil/Design
You will first need to upload your SVG file to Cricut Design Space if you havent done so already. You can read here to learn how to do that.
Once youve uploaded your design, youll want to size it accordingly to fit on the glass . You can also read how to resize images in Design Space here.
Select all the objects by clicking on Select All. Then right-click somewhere on the image and click on Attach. You want to attach all the layers so that they cut as one layer.
Since we are going to apply the adhesive side of the vinyl to the back of the glass, youll want to select the Mirror image by clicking on the button beside the word Mirror on the left-hand side of the screen. The grayed button will turn green to indicate Mirror image has been selected.
Then simply click on Continue.
Youll be prompted to select your device from the Select Cricut device drop-down menu. Select your device.
Design Space will then attempt to connect to your Cricut machine.

Fresh Baked Pies Sign
The other day I blogged about how I had a list of items I wanted but that I probably wouldnt buy, because funds.
Well, I decided to get my thinking cap on because I really wanted to fill my kitchen space with that sign, Fresh Baked Pies. Only thing is, its over 150 CA to purchase. I bought these letters from Amazon a few months back, I think they were like 6.49 for a pack of 200 and Ive used them to make Est & last name signs in the past.. so then I thought, why cant I make a Fresh Baked Pies sign?!
This sign literally cost me under 10 dollars, and just took a bit of time. Since we are builders we had most of the items that we needed.. the only thing I purchased was a small roller to paint the wood white. If youre new to DIYs, here is a list of what you will need.
Thats it! Even if you had to buy everything on that list, it would cost under 30.00 You can guy into your nearest hardware store and purchase a tester of white paint and it is under 4 dollars!
First step is to lay all your letters out to see how long your sign might be. Im making my sign 6 tall. Once your letters are laid out. Since it was 6 in length, that is how long I bought my plank of wood lucky me!

WASHINGTON, DC, US The Consumer Price Index for baked foods and cereal products increased 1.1% in September, rebounding after falling 0.2% in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor. The index for all food at home also rose 1.1%.
Of the 18 items followed by Milling & Baking News, a sister publication of World Grain, 15 posted month-over-month gains, 2 were lower and 1 was unchanged.
The September index for Cereals and Bakery Products before seasonal adjustment was 292.1% of the 1982-84 average, up 2.7% from a year ago. For all food at home, the September index was 262.7, up 4.5% from September 2020.
The CPI for cereals and cereal products in September was 236.2, unchanged from August and up 1.4% from September 2020. The index for products within this category included: flour and prepared mixes, 250.2, up 0.6% from August and up 4.1% from the previous year breakfast cereal, 229.1, down 0.3% from the previous month but up 1.2% from a year ago and rice, pasta and corn meal, 245.9, up 0.2% from August and up 0.8% from September 2020.
The price index for bakery products in September was 324.5, up 1.5% from August and up 3.2% from September 2020.

How To Make Mini Individual Apple Pies
Have you ever had this problem – you wanted to make an apple pie . You wanted to test out different apples in the pie but didn’t want to mix them up. While pretty much everyone doesn’t have this problem, a food blogger does. I wanted to do my own personal testing of how some apples held up in baking. I didn’t want to bake several huge pies to test these apples out. So instead I thought small – mini pies made in ramekins. A nice single serving which no additional dishes needed to serve them up.
The apples I used this time around in my test were Gala, Blondee, Cox’s Orange Pippin and Ribston Pippin. The last two I got in a shipment from Frieda’s Produce. Both of these are heirloom varieties. Other varieties you can use include: Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Granny Smith, Rhode Island Greening , Northern Spy, Empire, and Ida Red.
You can pick whatever pie crust recipe you like. I personally am a fan of Alton Brown’s Pie Crust. It uses both butter and lard for a nice one-two punch of flavor, tenderness, and flakiness. I found that baking these small pies made for a more delicious flaky crust!
I used 5 inch creme brulee ramkeins that I got from Cost Plus World Market I could get 3 mini pies out of 1 pie dough recipe, with having to re-roll the dough out once. You can also buy a set that comes with a torch from Amazon.

Being a DIYer can be so rewarding at times. Especially when you see something you want but cant find. In my case, all around blog land I keep seeing this framed glass sign from World Market. It is a so cute. It is simply Fresh Baked Pies Served Daily printed on glass in a white frame. Adorable. Well, I am too late to this party. My local store was out of stock. So I did the next best thing. I hacked it. Yes, me and my Cricut Explore.
I grabbed a frame from the garage. Took out the unwanted print. Removed the glass. I spray painted the frame white.
Then using my Cricut Explore, I designed my saying, Fresh Baked Pies Served Daily in Cricut Design Space. I cut out the saying in black vinyl. Then applied the black vinyl to the front of the clean glass. Popped the glass back into the frame and hung it on my kitchen wall.
It looks perfect there. Just like the sign should always have been hanging there. I didnt add the hanging wire to frame. Although I still might. It would be very easy to drill holes on either side of the top of the frame and insert some wire. That would definitely add to the cuteness factor.
So here it is hanging like it was always supposed to be there. Oh and I added a Bath and Body Works candle and holder. The candle is Leaves which is my favorite scent.
