I And Love And You Animal Testing

Hot Fire-Roasted Chilli Pepper Sauce by Lucky Dog Hot Sauce Review

I And Love And You is one of a select few pet food brands to give some public information about their animal testing. In the FAQ section of their website, they state the following:

We do not participate in invasive, unsafe, experimental animal testing. When we test our newest bites for palatability, safety, and digestibility, its in partnership with AAFCO.

AAFCO is the association of officials that regulate animal food and set nutrient profiles for dog and cat food. Once AAFCO approved kennels perform feeding trials and give us the thumbs up, our four-legged office taste testers line up to give us even more feedback!

I And Love And You clearly stating that they are not involved in invasive, unsafe, or experimental animal testing is a relief for many.

Many smaller pet food brands avoid disclosing detailed information on their animal testing or feeding trials. This lack of information being made public by brands is as they fear backlash from their customer base.

However, others in the industry are fearful of this lack of transparency and wonder whether some foods may not be suitable for long-term consumption due to insufficient testing.

We strongly believe that laboratory or invasive testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice. We hope that in the future, it will be eliminated.

I And Love And You Information

I And Love And You is a well-known but smaller pet food brand based in the United States. The brand is relatively young, having been founded back in 2012 by several employees at the same pet food store.

Many recognize I And Love And You thanks to their quirky name, but the quality of their recipes also give them a stellar reputation. This quality earned them a spot on the shelves of Whole Food stores early in their life.

They are one of a slim number of pet food brands that produce human-grade or raw dog food which has seen a surge in popularity in recent years.

I And Love And You is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, and all of their recipes are manufactured in the United States.

However, some of their ingredients are sourced from outside of the United States and Canada from countries such as Australia and New Zealand.

While some are fearful of ingredients sourced from outside of the United States, they should not fear ingredients from these countries as their safety standards often surpass that of the USA.

The quality of I And Love Yous recipes combined with their nutritional value can make some of their recipes expensive, especially compared to the lower-cost brands.

Some of their premium dry dog food recipes can top out at over $100 a bag, which is comparable to other brands like Orijen or The Honest Kitchen.

The brand is also available to buy from a myriad of online pet food sellers such as Chewy, , and Petflow.

Ollie Fresh Dog Food Reviews

Weve reviewed several fresh dog food companies and, to be honest, our dog liked them all. Shes not very picky .

So for these Ollie fresh dog food reviews, like the others, we looked at how excited she was for mealtime if her behavior changed during the trial period, and how her stool changed .

You can see Daisys honest reaction to Ollie fresh dog food in the unboxing and taste test video below.

The taste test was amazing! Get 50% OFF > >

Because Daisy will eat anything, she was excited to try out Ollie Fresh dog food, and you can see from our little taste test that she picked Ollie over her normal kibble. She, of course, ate her kibble AFTER her Ollie because she is a dog after all, haha.

We noticed that after the first meal she started to beg for meals earlier and earlier each day. This is a bit annoying, but I take it as a sign that she likes her new food!

In addition, we noticed that she would go over and lick her food bowl periodically throughout the day to get every last bit of Ollie. Another good sign!

And, the best sign of a happy dog , is that almost immediately we noticed a difference in Daisys stool, for the better. It was more firm and smaller which are both good things for me and my girl.

Overall we were very please with the Ollie fresh dog food. Our Daisy loved the taste and the food created firm stool and did not upset her stomach.

I And Love And You Recalls

I AND LOVE AND YOU Baked & Saucy Chicken Sweet Potato Dog Food, 21

Based on our research , I And Love And You has undergone recalls in its past, which means it is not a recall-free pet food brand.

While information is scarce, we found that I And Love And You issued a voluntary recall of certain dog treats in and this recall was due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Salmonella is a serious health risk for dogs and humans and is one of the most common causes of recalls in the industry.

The dog treat in question here was Cow-Boom! Strips Beef Gullet that were packaged into 2.0 oz bags, with the lot numbers ending in 4T1 or 5T1, a best-by-year of 2016 or 2017 and UPC number 8 18336 01134 4

While this voluntary recall does taint I And Love And Yous record, it is important to note that this was a voluntary recall and only affected a small batch of treats.

Many larger and more established brands have had non-voluntary recalls or recalls of dozens or even hundreds of batches of pet food.

We hope that I And Love And You have learned from this voluntary recall and are taking the safety and quality of their manufacturing process seriously.

Lastly, we always suggest that pet owners remain vigilant of any future recalls of I And Love And You or any other pet food brand to ensure that their pets remain healthy and safe.

How Baked Dog Foods Are Different

The early stages of this process are the same for baked dog foods. The ingredients for the food are mixed together. However, baked dog food does not use an expander and it is not cooked with steam or under pressure.

Pet foods that are oven baked are typically baked more slowly in an oven. They are cooked for a longer period of time than extruded pet foods. They do not use steam or high temperatures.

For example, Oven-Baked Tradition, from Canada, states that it takes 10 times longer to slow-bake their foods compared to making extruded pet food. They also state that slow baking allows nutrients to be easily digested.

And they point out that the high temperatures of extrusion cooking affects vitamins that are sensitive to high temperatures, which, of course, is true.

Ollie Dog Fresh Food Reviews: Bottom Line

Ollie is a dog food delivery service that brings a custom meal plan to your furry friend based on their unique profile. Profile questions are simple, and include your dogs weight, age, breed, activity level, and allergies, and are used to determine the correct portion based on calories needed per day.

Overall, we love Ollie fresh dog food and clearly, our Daisy loves it too! We could see her excitement for mealtime increase as well as the quality of her stool over the course of our 2-week trial.

The one drawback to owning a large dog is the cost of food, among other things, and unfortunately, feeding our girl 100% Ollie is out of our budget. We like that Ollie offers the option to purchase smaller portions in order to save money while still giving your pet high-quality fresh food.

We recommend Ollie fresh dog food for anyone looking for fresh dog food free from common allergens and those looking for a healthier food than store-bought kibble, and recommend Ollie Baked dog food for those who want the benefits of a limited ingredient dog food that is less expensive and easier to store than fresh food.

Other Factors To Consider

Of course, digestion isnt everything. According to an article from Petfoodindustry.com, Drying petfood at high temperatures may decrease nutrients, researchers find, researchers at one university in the Netherlands studied drying temperatures and the amount of time spend drying on the foods nutrition.

Their experiments tested extruded foods. Researchers said that drying pet foods at high temperatures of 320-360 F can significantly reduce nutrients or nutrient reactivity.

You might surmise from this study that the nutrients in oven-baked foods could be affected by temperatures and the length of time the food was cooked. Some oven-baked foods do note that their foods are cooked at lower temperatures, so this might be something to look for if you are interested in an oven-baked dog food.

Otherwise, we think its impossible to say that all oven-baked foods are better than extruded foods or vice versa. Factors such as ingredients and their sources, the dry matter basis of protein, fat, and the percentage of carbohydrates in the food, the manufacturer and their reputation all play a role in determining how good the dog food turns out to be.

About I And Love And You

Serve it dry if you have a sloppy eater

Ive tried different “I + love + you” dog foods. It is dry food in the shape of a heart. Cute, but my dog doesnt care about that. The flavor of the saucy beef and sweet potatoes seems okay for my dog. My issue with it is – if you add water to make gravy…the gravy is weirdly slimy and difficult to wipe up off the floor. And if you serve it dry, it is hard for my dog to eat. For some reason this heart shaped food is twice the thickness of their other ones. I will be going back to a different flavor.

finally! A food my puppies eat!!!

when we first got our pups, we started out with a pro plan puppy line, after a week or so, they turned their noses up at it- even adding other stuff they would spit out kibble. Switched to pro pac puppy….same results. Let’s try iandloveandyou naked essentials. As long as I cook it into eggs and olive oil, they would reluctantly eat it So, tried baked and saucy. Success!!!! and I mix it with their other food after making a gravy while switching types, and they devour the other food too!!! Yay!!!!

Are Baked Dog Foods Better Than Other Dog Foods

Before we answer this question , we need to explain that the more foods are processed and cooked, the more easily they are digested, in general.

We know that this flies in the face of what many people believe, but its true. If you feed two similarly healthy dogs a raw steak and a bowl of kibble, it will take longer for the dog to digest the raw steak, even though the raw steak may be natural food for your dog.

30% Off at Chewy.comHow To Redeem This Offer

If you think about this scientifically, you can see why this is true. Kibble is made up of ingredients that have already been processed, cooked, and broken down.

Raw food, by contrast, is not processed. Your dogs gastrointestinal system has to do all of the work so it takes longer to digest something raw.

What does this have to do with extruded vs. baked dog food? Well, baked dog food takes hours longer to cook before its bagged and sent to the pet store. Extruded foods are cooked relatively quickly, though they are cooked at high temperatures and under high steam pressure. Most companies that make oven-baked dog foods do claim that their foods are easier for dogs to digest.

Flint River Ranch twice-baked their foods slowly. They claimed that this approach made hard-to-digest molecules of raw starches into something that was easier to digest and acted as a pre-digest of the kibble. Per Flint River Ranch, it put less strain on the dogs digestive system and allowed the dog to absorb more of the food.
