What Is The Most Nutritious Part Of A Potato
I always recommend using organic potatoes when cooking, since they contain way fewer chemicals, and are safe to eat with skin-on.
That being said, potato skin contains significant nutrients. Similarly, the flesh is healthy and has good nutrients. They are a rich source of fiber, iron, vitamin C, and vitamin B-6, but to get the most nutrients youll need to eat the whole potato.

To BAKE FROM FROZEN preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for 35-40 minutes or until heated through.
Do You Poke Them Before Baking
Usually, I do poke the potatoes when baking. The main purpose behind piercing them with a fork is to let the steam escape and prevent the spuds from cracking when baking.
I try to not poke them from time to time because I believe this way the skin becomes even crispier. However, if you feel concerned, feel free to pierce them before cooking.

Why is it common to salt the exterior of a baked potato? A: Chefs started doing this years ago to allow the salt to absorb or draw out the moisture of the potato while baking, which results in a dry, fluffy potato. They used to do something similar with prime rib, sometimes baking it over rock salt.

How To Bake A Potato In The Oven
Heres our master method for how to make a baked potato in the oven! The tricks? Bake at a high temperature, and dont use aluminum foil. This makes the best crispy exterior and fluffy interior! Foil makes them come out too soft. Heres how to bake a potato:
- Use high heat. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Using high heat makes a crispy skin.
- Prick them and rub with olive oil. Scrub the potatoes and pierce them all over with a fork. Rub each potato with olive oil.
- Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack. This makes them the crispiest! Dont add aluminum foil or it will make them too soft. Add a tray on rack below to catch any dripping oil.
- Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour. Bake the potatoes for 20 minutes and flip with tongs. Bake additional 25 minutes and check for tenderness with a fork. The fork should easily pierce the potato to the center. If its not tender, continue cooking up to 15 minutes more, depending on size of the potato. The bigger the potato, the longer it takes!

Is It Better To Boil Or Bake Sweet Potatoes
Boiling may actually retain most of the antioxidant power of sweet potatoes, compared to roasting and steaming. Baking can also cause an 80% drop in vitamin A levels, twice as much as boiling. Therefore, from a nutritional standpoint, boiling rather than baking should be recommended for cooking sweet potato.

What Type Of Potato Is Best For Baking
Russet potatoes are hands down, the best potatoes for baking.
Considered a starchy potato, they are low in moisture and have a fluffy, crumbly, soft interior after theyve been baked. They are also fantastic at soaking up some of the best potato toppings like butter and sour cream. They are also popular in mashed potatoes and french fries.
Waxier potatoes can also be baked. However, they will have a denser texture. I love using these potatoes for roasting, potato salads, and casseroles.
