While Baker Museum is owned and operated by ArtisNaples, a nonprofit organization that owns and operates a number of museums in the Naples area. In fact, Artis has been around since 1974. And while they include many different types of art in their collection, they are particularly known for their modern art collection and their growing set of contemporary pieces.
Dale Chihuly A Master In Glass
Dale Chihuly is a multi-media artist known for pushing the boundaries of glass and revolutionizing the American studio glass movement.
For this comprehensive exhibition at The Baker Museum, Chihuly presents stunning installations drawn both from recent works and from his earlier signature series. Among the featured series, indoors and outdoors, are Baskets, Venetians, Ikebana, Fiori, Rotolo, Glass on Glass and Red Reeds.
In addition, a dynamic, large-scale assemblage, Gilded Fiori Boat, will be premiered at The Baker Museum, occupying a gallery on its own. The work exemplifies Chihulys ongoing exploration of site-specific installations and interest in transforming and expanding the capabilities of glass, which can be further seen in Red Reeds. Consisting of a multitude of tall, reed-like forms, the installation will be presented in the reflecting pools in the Norris Garden on the Kimberly K. Querrey and Louis A. Simpson Cultural Campus.
Inspired by Venetian Art Deco vases, in 1988 Chihuly launched the Venetian series boldly colored and intricate, vase-shaped works. Also on view are the Ikebana, which the artist initiated in 1989 as an offshoot of the Venetians, inspired by the art of Japanese flower arrangement. Further demonstrating Chihulys penchant for organic, free flowing forms, Dreaming Forms: Chihuly Then and Now also includes an immersive Mille Fiori installation.

Dreaming Forms: Chihuly Then and Now, the third Dale Chihuly exhibition in the history of Naples, FLs The Baker Museum, helps celebrate the museums 20th season and its reopening to the public.
American artist Dale Chihuly has long been associated with The Baker Museum, including an exhibition of his works that was featured when the museum opened in November 2000, with Chihuly himself attending the inaugural festivities.
Dreaming Forms: Chihuly Then and Now, on view through February 28, 2021, includes stunning artworks presented in The Baker Museum as well as around the Kimberly K. Querrey and Louis A. Simpson Cultural Campus.
There is a lovely symmetry to having Dale Chihuly anchor the 20th anniversary season of The Baker Museum, since he helped inaugurate the museum when it opened, said Kathleen van Bergen, CEO and President of ArtisNaples. Devoted philanthropists, the Bakers are well-known for their contributions in Collier County to The Baker Museum at ArtisâNaples Naples Community Hospital The Naples Players Gulfshore Playhouse and many others. While itâs almost impossible to mention the arts in Naples without a nod to the Bakers, what wasnât so transparent to all, until recently anyway, is Jayâs passion for baseball and the New York Yankees. Remarkably, the Bakers have combined Jayâs love of the game with their collecting prowess, resulting in what is likely the most impressive New York Yankees memorabilia compilation in the world: âBaseball Heroes: Works from the Jay H. Baker Collection.â
The world of collecting sports-related items can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to a team with as much historical heft as the Yankees. The Baker Museum At Artis
Adolescence is often a time of turmoil. For the Baker Museum at Artis-Naples, adolescence has been especially turbulent, denoted by lengthy closures, first from damage suffered by the exterior of the building during Hurricane Irma in 2017, and then as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the helm of new Gallery Director and Chief Curator Courtney McNeil, the Baker Museum has emerged from these challenges better than ever and committed to enticing visitors from new demographics and segments of Southwest Floridas diverse population.
This is a great time of year for locals to come out, said NcNeil. Traffic is easy. Its a nice thing to do when those afternoon thunderstorms, when its pouring rain out. Were here. Were air conditioned. Were open, and its just a wonderful way to spend a day or an afternoon.
Even before they enter the museums grand foyer, which is dominated by a three-story Chihuly icicle consisting of 377 blown glass pieces, visitors will pass through a broad, completely re-imagined courtyard culminating in the Norris Garden and its cozy Heidis Place snack-ateria. Inside, the square footage is roughly the same as before, but renovations spurred by Hurricane Irma have rendered the space far more user friendly, said McNeil.
The square footage that we have is pretty consistent but now were able to use the space in more exciting ways now that a few tweaks have been made inside.

Dreaming Forms: Chihuly Then and Now aims to inspire and provide the visitor with artistic respite and visual pleasure. It will evince not only Chihulys artistic rigor, but also his continuous investigation of contemporary themes and forms while honoring and reinvigorating traditional glassmaking technique.
The museums permanent collection currently includes three exceptional Chihuly works: the monumental Blue Icicle Chandelier, which provides a dramatic greeting to visitors as they enter The Baker Museum lobby Red Chandelier, ensconced majestically in Hayes Hall, where it reflects the light in various ways, creating a swirl of energy in the surrounding environment and the magnificent Persian Seaform Ceiling, with glass panes spanning the length of an entire corridor on the third floor, sending vivid colorful patterns dancing across the walls and floors below as light filters in from above.
In addition to the Chihuly exhibition, this fall The Baker Museum will also feature the exhibitions Subject Matters: Selections from the Permanent Collection, Rodin: Truth Form Life / Selections from the Iris & B. ArtisNaples, home of The Baker Museum and the Naples Philharmonic, announced the Sept. 6 opening of Helen Frankenthaler: Late Works, 1990-2003, a landmark presentation of the artists innovative work that serves as the anchor for the museums fall exhibition season.
This fall, The Baker Museum presents a truly significant slate of exhibitions to launch the 2022-23 season, said CEO and President Kathleen van Bergen. From a landmark exhibition of the late works of Helen Frankenthaler to stunning multimedia installations by Korean-born artist Ran Hwang, and to the deeply impactful drawings of Mauricio Lasansky chronicling the horrors of the Holocaust, The Baker Museum offers visitors an opportunity to experience thought-provoking works by a range of artists.
Helen Frankenthaler: Late Works, 1990-2003 Sept. 6 Nov. 27 The innovative and experimental soak-stain paintings of Helen Frankenthaler established her as one of the great artists of the 20th century. This exhibition, on loan from the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, is the first museum exhibition dedicated to the last phase of the painters prolific career and features 20 paintings on paper and 10 paintings on canvas.

Collier Museum At Government Center

The Curator of Modern Art is a dynamic, ambitious, and resourceful curatorial professional who plays a leadership role in formulating ArtisNaples, The Baker Museums strategy for the display, research and growth of its collection of modern art. The Curator of Modern Art is responsible for mounting nationally-recognized, engaging exhibitions and for serving as a visible senior representative of the museum to the public, board members, donors and the media. The Curator of Modern Art fosters collaborative interdepartmental relationships, building mutual trust and respect and demonstrating flexibility and collegiality, to maximize the impact and visibility of the museums modern art exhibitions and related programming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Museum Director and Chief Curator, develops and guides the focus of ArtisNaples, The Baker Museums modern art program.
Proactively conceive, organize, and coordinate nationally-recognized, engaging exhibitions and installations composed of works from the museums permanent collection and/or loaned works, requiring minimal supervision.
Develop and oversee the strategy for the management and growth of the museums collection of modern art.

Art museums in Naples Florida The Baker Museum located in Naples, Florida is one of the most prominent fine art museums in the Southwest Florida area. With over 20 years of collecting and exhibiting art, the Baker Museum is dedicated to cultivating the fine arts through stewardship and preservation, as well as inquiry and analysis. During this time, an expansion was also planned the additional square footage was opened in the fall of 2020, with additional space for permanent collection installations, as well as new spaces for community arts education and other events.
