Baked Foods Maker Shutters Operations
SIMPSONVILLE, SC. The Muffin Mam, Inc., a manufacturer of baked foods based in Simpsonville, closed its 100,000-square-foot baking plant in Laurens, SC, on Nov. 10 after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of South Carolina on Nov. 9.
In the filing, Muffin Mam said it owes nearly $6 million to 189 creditors, including more than $600,000 owed to Atlantic Corp., $591,400 owed to Hardman Distribution and $382,750 owed to Creative Baking Solutions. The company has estimated assets of less than $50,000.
After Muffin Mam commissioned a new facility in early 2020, initial lockdowns related to the pandemic greatly limited customer interactions, which negatively impacted new revenues, said Todd Littleton, chief executive officer of Muffin Mam.
Mr. Littleton said Muffin Mam, like many companies during the pandemic, struggled to secure supplies and had trouble hiring skilled labor.
While we are deeply disappointed in this outcome, we sincerely want to thank our employees, customers and suppliers for their tireless efforts over the past two years in our struggle to survive, he said.
The bankruptcy filing comes a little more than two years after Muffin Mam announced plans for the new $18.8 million manufacturing plant in Laurens county. At the time, Muffin Mam said it expected the Laurens plant to complement the companys existing production facility in Greenville county.

Went by the Honey Baked Ham store on Pleasantburg to pick up lunch today. When we arrived, there were only a few people in the shop, but CHAOS was the order of the day. The woman who took our order stopped mid-way to train another…staff member how to use the register. I got the sense that most of the folks working there do not know what they are doing and are not working together to provide good service. When we got to the order pick up station, we found out that they did not have the soup we ordered and paid for. We couldn’t get the attention of anyone at the order desk to request a refund, because by now, the line was out the door.In preparation for holiday sales, they have roped off lines for Orders and Order Pick/Ups. What they have NOT planned for is an EXIT! If you want to get out, you can either duck under the ropes, or sidle up to someone in one of the other lines. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. The portions remain small and are served on bread instead of pastries. The staff just do what they have to–no more.
Used to be a favorite of mine. Now, the portions are much smaller, and the sides have obviously been frozen. The tomatoes on my sandwich were almost frozen. Sides lacked flavor. Even the drink machine was running out of syrup. Had to stand in line…as only one person at register.More
