Hamptons style: Light, breezy, and, for the most part, informal, Hamptons kitchens are often white with accents of lightly stained walnut or oak. I love the stability of design in the Hamptons. Theres a generational style of the classic white kitchen that was relevant 20 years ago and remains just as beautiful now. Of course, there have been very exciting moves over the last few years to also balance classic with modern.

Local cuisine: My studio sits adjacent to the Bell & Anchor, which is one of my favorites.

The company is putting the finishing touches on a new 1,100-square-foot showroom at 43 Main St., nearly doubling the size of its existing showroom at 129 Main St.

The new Bakes & Kropp showroom will the brands signature designs as well as a functioning kitchen with a demonstration area to provide space for engagement with the neighborhood through community events, according to a company statement.

A grand opening for the new showroom is scheduled for Thursday, April 28.

As we expand our footprint nationwide, we seek to also deepen our commitment to our existing communities, Bakes & Kropp Co-Founder and Head of Design Bob Bakes said in the statement. Cold Spring Harbor is an important location for us, as the understated elegance of the charming town aligns seamlessly with our design approach. We wanted to match the quaint, walkable nature of the town with an intimate and welcoming space. While deeply rooted in its location, the design of our new showroom adds to the continuous thread between all Bakes & Kropp locations, providing a carefully curated jumping-off point to help guide our clients toward their dream kitchens.

Be responsive. Paul Kropp: Respond to clients instantly or as early as possible so they know they are your first priority. If you dont have an answer right away, let them know that you are working on finding one.

The Abcs Of Participating In A Design Show House

May 11, 2022

On this weeks From the Tap podcast, I am welcoming Bob Bakes, cofounder and head of design at Bakes & Kropp, a luxury kitchen design and manufacturing company with showrooms in New York City, the Hamptons, Long Island, Michigan and Palm Beach. We discussed participating in design show houses from a designers point of view.

Bakes is a veteran of top-tier show houses the Hamptons Show House, Galerie House of Art + Design at Sag Harbor and most recently the 2022 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach to name a few and shared his experience and insights on the complete process, beginning with the motivation for participating in a show house.

While his firm undertakes some projects to raise awareness of their design work in the community or in the press, it is the charitable aspect of the work that really speaks to him. He opens up about the personal and professional connections he has forged with Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club as a result of his involvement in their projects.

Bakes dives deep into how designers who aspire to work on a show house should begin, from cultivating relationships with select media or developers to building project portfolios to making contact with show house managers.

To deck out the 12,500-sq.-ft. home a classic, shingle-style estate located on 6 acres in the Hamptons participating designers were selected from across the country. They collaborated with art galleries to curate the spaces, while several artists created site-specific installations.

Sag Harbor is such a special place in the Hamptons, and were eager to bring together this house of dreams where art and design intersect in such a fresh way, said designer and design chair Nicole Fuller. Its like nothing weve ever seen or experienced before. Our A-list lineup of artists, galleries, designers and artisans will transform this house into something new. Its uncharted territory, and for creatives, theyre challenged in a way that gives them total freedom to have new ideas and be inspired in different ways.
