How To Store And Reheat Leftovers
Youve got two options for storing your leftover baked chicken the fridge or the freezer. Whichever you choose, you are going to want to wrap the chicken tightly or store it in an airtight container.
- Fridge: Your chicken will be good for about 3 days in an airtight container.
- Freezer: Wrap your chicken tightly in foil, then place in an airtight, freezer safe container. It will last about 4-6 months.
When youre ready to reheat your baked chicken, place it in a baking dish and warm them in the oven. To avoid drying out, you could whip up some extra marinade and spoon it over the chicken.
Rules For Cooking Frozen Chicken
- Allow 50% additional cooking time. This rule makes cooking frozen chicken easy. It will not matter if you are baking thighs, drumsticks, or thighs or what particular recipe you are following. As long as you increase the baking time by about 50%, you should be fine.
- Oven temperature: I prefer to cook the thighs at a slightly lower temperature than usual to give them time to thaw and cook on the inside before the outside gets too brown.
- Dont bake clumps of frozen meat. Instead, the pieces should be individually frozen so that you can place them on the baking tray in a single layer from the very beginning.
- Use a digital meat thermometer. The meat thermometer is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets it is reliable and makes meat cooking easy. While you can pass on it on other occasions, I feel it is essential to use it when cooking chicken from frozen: its the best way of making sure that the meat is safely cooked without overcooking it.

- This inexpensive model still works well and can save your dinner.
Chicken should be cooked to 165 degrees F. I remove my chicken several degrees early and let it rest, as the temperature will continue to rise.

The lower your oven temperature, the longer you will need to cook the chicken thighs. You should preheat your oven to ensure it is as the temperature specified in your recipe otherwise the timings will be inaccurate.
Remember that opening and closing your oven door will also cause the temperature to decrease, so try not to open it frequently while cooking.
Chicken thighs are generally cooked at 180C/160C fan. If a recipe only specifies the conventional oven temperature but you want to cook on via a fan oven, simply deduct 20C. So a recipe that calls for 200C, would work out to be 180C in a fan oven.
