    This recipe comes together pretty quick and the steps are not difficult at all. You can even prepare this ahead of time and just toss it in the oven when youre getting ready to eat.

    Add the barbecue sauce, ketchup, water, mustard, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, cumin powder, and ground pepper to a bowl and whisk until combined well. Set aside.

    A note about the water. This step is completely optional depending on how you like your baked beans. The water adds more fluid to your beans, giving you plenty of liquid. If you like your baked beads really thick, you can leave it out.

    Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium high heat, breaking it up into small pieces. Cook until the fat renders, about 5 minutes.

    Add onions to the sausage and cook until sausage is browned and onions are tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and set aside.

    In a bowl add the sausage and sauce. Add all the cans of beans and the Ro-tel. Combine well.

    Transfer contents of bowl to a baking dish and add the bacon to the top of the mixture.

    Place into oven and bake at 350 degrees F. You may want to place baking dish onto a sheet pan as the dish will bubble.

    Bake until beans are bubbling and bacon is cooked, about 1 1/2 hours. Allow to rest for 15 minutes and then serve. You can also add salt and pepper to taste.

    This one-pot recipe is super easy to make. After you brown some chopped bacon you will sauté some onion, garlic, and kielbasa in the same pot. Then just add in all the remaining ingredients, cover the pot and transfer it to the oven to finish cooking.

  • Cook the Bacon and Onions. Set a Dutch oven or a large pot over medium heat, and let it warm up. When the pot is hot, add the diced bacon, and cook it until the bacon is crispy. Use a slotted spoon to take the bacon out of the pot and set it aside. Add the onions to the bacon grease in the pot, and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add the Garlic and Sausage. After 2 minutes, stir in the garlic and cook it for about 15 seconds, to release the fragrance of the garlic. Add the sausage slices to the pot, and cook until browned on all sides, about 6 minutes.
  • Add the Remaining Ingredients. Stir in the beans, and season the mixture with salt and pepper. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, tomato paste, molasses, spicy mustard, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce .
  • Stir the mixture until everything is well-incorporated, and then add the bacon and stir again. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes more, or until the beans are hot and the sauce has thickened slightly.

    This Baked Beans with Smoked Sausage recipe is my very favorite baked bean recipe. What makes it so special is the slices of smoked sausage. If youre a fan of having meat in your baked beans, you will love this recipe. Its like Beanie Weenies, only much better.

    Not only is this recipe flavored with bacon, but the slices of smoked sausage, , make it feel like a main dish casserole instead of a side.

    And you may like it so much that you want to eat it as a main dish. I think thats perfectly acceptable.

    Just like any delicious baked bean recipe, this recipe has plenty of sweetness. A combination of ketchup, molasses, and light brown sugar provides the sweetness. A little apple cider vinegar, mustard, and Tabasco sauce balances the sweetness.

    It cooks in the oven in an uncovered Dutch oven until nice and thick, which really concentrates the flavors.

    Canned Bush Baked Beans Recipes

    4 slices thick-cut bacon, roughly chopped
    1 medium onion, chopped
    Two 15-ounce cans Great Northern, navy, cannellini or white beans
    1/3 cup ketchup
    1/3 cup dark brown sugar
    1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire
    Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper


    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
    • Put the bacon in a large, cold skillet and cook over medium heat until the fat renders and the bacon is almost crisp, about 8 minutes. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add 1 of the cans of beans with their liquid. Drain and rinse the remaining beans, then add them to the skillet. Add the ketchup, sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a low simmer, then transfer to a small baking dish. Bake uncovered until thickened and bubbly, about 50 minutes. Serve warm.

    A note about beans. My favorite are Bush’s Original baked beans. However, I’ve also made my own using dried beans as well as going cheap and using generic or other off brands of beans. They all work just fine, but I like the extra seasoning of Bush’s the best. Use what you love.

    But, I have to admit, taking the time to slowly bake beans from scratch can be a challenge for busy cooks. Thats why I adore this easy recipe for quick baked beans on the stove. Theyre so easy, and so good!

    To get a head start on baking these beans, I use canned baked beans as a base for my recipe. The beans are already cooked, tender, and seasoned, so all thats left to do is make a fantastic sauce mixture, brown some bacon and sausage, and let the flavors meld in a brief cooking time.

    While you definitely can bake these in your oven, I find that simply heating them on the stove results in perfectly flavored, tender beans.

    Make The Best Darn Baked Beans On The Planet:

  • You can make this either in a crock pot, cooking all day or on the stove, or in a casserole dish in the oven. Really, once you cook the meat, you can mix everything together and call it finished. However, I think they are slow cooked so the flavors melt together. For today, we’re going to go with the oven baking method.
  • Brown the sausage in a skillet.
  • Empty both cans of beans into a large casserole bowl/dish that has a lid.
  • Pour meat into the beans. There shouldn’t be much grease, but if you prefer, drain the grease first. Also, you will end up with chunks of meat in the baked beans, if you prefer smaller chunks, either cut the sausage up or putting in a food processor before adding to beans.
  • Add in the rest of the ingredient and stir until well mixed.
  • Cover and bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes. Remove from oven, remove lid and let stand for at least 15 minutes before serving.
  • These baked beans are super tasty cold too!

    Some adjustments and thoughts

    • Regular sausage works fine too, but the sweetness of the maple sausage is part of the extra yumminess.
    • If you find you don’t have any brown sugar, I have discovered that 1-2 tablespoons of honey plus a tablespoon of sugar works just fine.
    • Dried onions will work, fresh onions are better.
    • Seasoning you can add your own, omit the steak seasoning and add seasoned pepper and other steak/meat spices if you prefer.

    • To refrigerate leftover baked beans, pack them into airtight containers and refrigerate for 3 to 4 days.
    • To freeze, pack into airtight freezer containers or freezer bags, and keep in the freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
    • Reheat in a covered oven-proof dish in the oven, at 350°F, until hot. You can also microwave portions for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between each heating, until hot all the way through.
