How Long Does Spinach Dip Last

The length of time you can store this spinach dip depends quite a bit on how you handle it.

If you place it on a table for guests to enjoy for a couple of hours, you can cover it and refrigerate it for a day or two.

However, if you store the spinach dip in an airtight container immediately after you make it, it should be good for 3 or 4 days.

How To Prepare Spinach

A quick and easy way to prepare spinach dip is to make sure the spinach is prepped the right way. For garden spinach:

  • Start with breaking apart the stems and add the spinach to cold water.
  • Gently swish the spinach around in the water to remove sand and dirt.
  • Carefully wash each spinach leaf. Break off tough stems.
  • Rinse again in fresh water, and place on top of a clean dish towel or paper towels. Roll up and squeeze lightly to remove moisture.
  • Coarsely chop with a large knife. Presto!

Itll look like a LOT of spinach, but it cooks down beautifully in the dip.

To use frozen spinach, defrost and drain two 10 ounce packages of frozen spinach. Add in place of fresh spinach and follow remaining instructions.

Is Spinach Dip Hard To Make

Ive seen some recipes for spinach dip that require a lot of active time, with elaborate ingredients, overcomplicated instructions, and cooking on the stovetop. And while none of that is a bad thing, I personally like to take a more hands-off approach when I want to serve a hot dip.

For this recipe, you only need to do two things: thoroughly mix all ingredients together and bake them in a dish. Really, thats it! It will probably take you longer to cut the french bread than it will to get the dip ready for serving.

Plus, this method is ideal for a party, because if the dip ever gets too cold you can pop it back in the oven for 5 minutes to bring it back to melted cheesy goodness.

Stove Top Spinach Dip Recipe

Im admitting that I have an eating issue when it comes to anything warm, rich, cheesy and gooey. Add a bold red glass of wine and a crusty baguette, Ill inhale a big bowl of any cheese dip that was accidentally left in front of me.

Its not often that I make my appetizer dips outside of the oven. The slow, warm love that the oven lathers on to my cheese dip is amazing and theres no substitution to how well the oven melts everything together.

But when my brother #2, who also happens to be my #1 dip fan, made one of my appetizer dips on the stove top, I screamed out loud in dip mutiny. How could he rip apart my recipe and cook it in 10 minutes in a FRYING PAN?! Ive always nurtured all my dips in the oven for about one hour and patiently waited out the long bake time. The results for my dip recipes were always so wonderful that I never, ever considered changing my cooking technique. Why mess with perfection?

Its good, try it, he told me. Brother #2 has always been a quiet, gentle guy of few words. So when he made the effort to share his ideas, it was powerful enough to convince me to pull out my cast iron pan, think out side of the oven and give my warm spinach dip a try via the stove top.

Tips For The Best Spinach Dip

  • How to Thaw Spinach: place spinach in a microwave-safe bowl or plate and microwave for about 3 to 4 minutes or until it is soft. After that, you can remove the excess moisture by pressing it in a kitchen towel, cheese cloth or with a mesh strainer.
  • Full Fat: Use full fat dairy products, not light or fat free. This dip is delicious because it is decadent and cheesy. If you use low fat products instead, the final flavor and feel of the dip will be lacking.
  • Other Add-Ins: throw in 1/2 a cup or so of sun-dried tomatoes or a cup of chopped artichoke hearts to bring even more great flavor to the dip!

Ingredients For The Spinach Artichoke Dip

  • Spinach:

  • I used fresh spinach to make this easy artichoke spinach dip because I happened to find it when I actually needed it. I weighed the spinach after I removed the stalks, because the stalks were huge.
  • However, if you dont happen to have fresh spinach on hand, frozen spinach is a great substitute.
  • 250 g/ 8.8 oz fresh spinach when cooked down are more or less the equivalent of 140 g/ 5 oz frozen spinach.
  • Give the frozen spinach to a small pan, cover and let thaw on medium low heat, it shouldnt take too long. Stir from time to time. Drain, let cool and squeeze as in the case of the wilted fresh spinach.
  • Artichokes:

  • You can use either canned or jarred artichokes in oil. When it comes to taste I definitely prefer the jarred artichokes, I am not a big fan of the rather strong citric acid taste of the canned artichokes. The citric acid is used to preserve the artichokes color, but I often find it too dominant.
  • When using canned artichokes make sure to rinse them well and especially to pat them dry well with kitchen paper.
  • Otherwise, you can use the jarred artichokes in oil, which have a milder and more pleasant taste. I also drain and pat them well with kitchen paper before adding to the dip to get rid of excess oil .

How To Quickly Thaw Your Spinach

Spinach Dip Recipe

I use FROZEN chopped spinach leaves for this recipe.

Why? Because it is super cheap AND does not require you to cook your spinach or chop it. If you used raw spinach leaves, you would need to cook them down OR chop them up before you add them to your dip. Especially if your spinach leaves are super large.

Substitutions For This Spinach Artichoke Dip Recipe:

There are a few substitutions for this recipe, as well as some answers to questions about making spinach artichoke dip.

Cottage cheese: I havent tested this recipe without cottage cheese, but if youre asking because you dont like it just put it in there. I dont like cottage cheese either but I swear you can *not* taste it in this.

Low fat cheese I find that low fat cheese do not melt as well as regular cheeses. I dont know how they will work in this recipe.

WW Freestyle Note: You can try making this a lower point dip with fat free cheese, but Im not sure how it will turn out.

Fresh spinach: I wouldnt recommend using fresh spinach in this. I think it makes the dip too watery. If you only have fresh spinach cook or steam the fresh spinach first for about 5 min. Drain any excess water out of it to prevent a watery dip.

Spice: If you like a little kick add 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the dip!

Frozen artichoke hearts: I wouldnt recommend using frozen artichoke hearts. If you need to, you can cook first, allow to cool slightly and drain any excess water. Canned artichoke hearts are much easier to use!

Can You Freeze Spinach Dip

One of the most common questions I get about party dips is whether or not you can make them in advance. Since its easier to prepare treats for a party the night before than scrambling to get everything done the day of the event, I can totally understand why someone would want to do this.

How To Make Banana Cream Pie Dip

The process is simple and the ingredients are few 6 to be exact. That is a winning combination right there!

To make this Banana Cream Pie Dip, I use a handheld electric mixer because I feel it speeds up the process. Of course, you can use a whisk if you wish.

First, mix the pudding with the Half & Half. You can use whole milk as well, although the final result may not be as rich and creamy. The mixture will look as if it is setting right before your eyes. That is expected.

Then beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Room temperature cream cheese is key for quick and creamy results.

Next, whisk in the whip topping. I like to add it in two batches, making sure the first batch is completely incorporated before I add the remaining whip topping.

Lastly, mix the pudding mixture with the cream cheese mixture. It will look fluffy and creamy.

This is the time when you will have to show some restraint and stop yourself from eating it!

I top the creamy dip with sliced bananas and crushed Nilla wafers. PRO-TIP: Some toasted coconut is amazing sprinkled on top too!
