Paleo Pork Chops & Baked Apples

Unlike chicken dishes, pork-based dishes arent as familiar and might come off as a bit intimidating. Rest assured, despite how impressive this recipe tastes, it only calls for a few simple steps on your part. You dont need culinary experience or kitchen chops to whip up these chops!

First, youll arrange the pork chops on a baking sheet and brush them with olive oil. Next, sprinkle each chop with salt, pepper, and thyme to taste. Finish by placing the sliced apples on top of each pork chop, followed by a sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon.

At this point, youve done all the heavy lifting. Really? Really. Simply pop the chops into the oven for 20 to 25 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit, or until apples are tender and pork is cooked through. And voila! Your sweet and juicy, fork-tender pork chops await.

I dont know about you, but I loathe doing dishes. Some meals can seriously fill up your sink , so these one pan meals are a nice change of pace.

I used fresh herbs in this dish since Im a huge fan of using them whenever possible, but I know not everyone keeps a steady supply of fresh herbs in their house, so you can swap them out for dried if thats what you have on hand. No need to run out to the store

    Storage And Reheating Tips

    • Fridge. Store seared pork chops with apples in an airtight container for up to 4 days. I do not recommend freezing because that will dry them out.
    • Reheat in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Check and reheat for 30 seconds more or longer.
    • Reheat on the stovetop. You can also reheat pork chops on medium heat in the skillet on the stovetop. When reheating, heat olive oil in the skillet first until it shimmers.

    How To Sear Pork Chops

    • First, prepare the pork chops. Pat pork chops dry with paper towels. Brush pork chops with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
    • Next, prepare the pan. For best searing results, use a cast-iron pan. Heat an empty large pan over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes to heat it through.
    • Start searing the pork chops undisturbed. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil – the oil should shimmer. Add the pork chops, and sear them on one side for 5 minutes, without moving.
    • Flip to the other side to sear. Reduce the heat to medium, flip the pork chops over to the other side, and sear them on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Cook longer until the pork chops are cooked through. Use a meat thermometer for guidance.

Do You Cover Pork Chops When You Bake Them In The Oven

That depends! If youre baking the pork chops from start to finish, its often a good idea to cover them at the beginning in order to trap steam and keep the meat moist. They are then finished in the oven, uncovered.

In this recipe, however, the chops are started on the stovetop. By the time they go in the oven, they need to be uncovered, to finish them properly and get some good color on the pork and other ingredients!

    Baking Pork Chops Vs Frying

Here at Skinny Ms., we definitely advocate for baking over frying whenever possible. Although frying gives you that crispy finish thats worth dreaming about, it does more harm than good. Baking, on the other hand, shaves off a big chunk of fat and calories. But does it skimp on flavor? Absolutely not. This recipe still delivers chops that are juicy and tender on the inside with a nice sear on the outside.

Furthermore, frying food in oil causes the starches in the food to convert to carcinogens. This means the high temperature of this quick-cooking method can contribute to diseases like cancer.
