How To Remove Grease From Pan With Baking Soda
Baking soda is a versatile all-round cleaner thats a powerhouse when it comes to fighting grease. Baking soda is lovely because it tends to be gentle on surfaces, yet powerful on grease even on stove tops! If youre wondering how to remove grease from pan with baking soda, the secret is in how it reacts with hot water to lift stains and grease away.
- 1 part warm water
To make a home degreaser, add three parts baking soda to one part boiling water to create a thick baking soda paste. Make sure to use hot water, as this helps to activate the baking soda so it will do its job. Spread as much baking soda paste as you need onto the burnt-on areas of your pans or baking sheets.
Leave the baking soda paste in place for at least ten minutes, then scrub it off with a scouring pad to clean a scorched pot or pan.
However, dont use a scrubber, scouring pad, SOS pads, or steel wool on non-stick pans or pans with fragile coatings, as you will irreparably damage the surface! Never use a scouring pad to clean a ceramic pan or it will scratch it.
If you have numerous areas of baked-on grease, you may need to repeat this process, but it should eventually lift the oil away from your pots and pans.
Alternatively, you can add hydrogen peroxide to your baking soda instead of warm water for a more pronounced grease-lifting effect. A mixture of baking soda and water makes an excellent kitchen counter cleaner, too.

Get Rid Of The Grease
Dealing with greasy baking trays can be a challenge if you dont know where to start. If youve had trouble trying to take on this slippery customer in the past, give this method a try instead:
Use a paper towel and some oven and grill spray to wipe away grease
You can find these kinds of sprays in the household cleaning aisle of your nearest supermarket. Apply to the grease and then wipe away with a kitchen towel. You dont need to be thorough, just take care of any big clumps of grease that have accumulated in the corners.
- Fill a sink with hot water and washing up liquid
- Soak the tray for an hour
Allow the soap to deal with whats left of the oil and grease. If your tray doesnt fully fit in the sink, turn it around after an hour and allow the other side to soak.
Use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe away any residue
If its a non-stick tray youre dealing with, use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe away the remaining grease it should come off fairly easily. If your tray isnt non-stick, use a scouring pad and give it a good scrub to get rid of the more troublesome spots.

How To Clean Burnt Grease From Bottom Of Frying Pans With Ketchup
It might seem weird to coat the bottom of your pots and pans in ketchup, but it works in a pinch to soften and lift burnt-on grease. You need a bit more time to allow this hack to sit than a few other hacks.
Cover the bottom of the frying pan in ketchup.
Allow it to sit for several hours, overnight if possible.
Use a scouring pan and a pinch of Dawn to scrub.
Rinse and enjoy.
How Do I Get Baked On Grease Off My Oven

First, take the oven racks out. Sink them in hot water mixed with 1/2 cup of dishwashing soap and let them sit overnight. The next day, give them a good scrubbing to remove the crusted grease and let them dry.
As for the oven itself, follow these steps:
- Step #1: Mix half a cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of warm water. Make more of this mixture if you have an especially large oven. Wait for the mixture to become thick like paste, and then slather it all over the inside of the oven, but avoid getting it on the heating elements.
- Step #2: Close the oven and let it sit for twelve hours or longer. The baking soda mixture will take on an ugly brown hue, but dont let that worry you. This is a normal chemical reaction and it means the mixture is working.
- Step #3: The following day, gently spread white vinegar over the inside of the oven and let it react with the baking soda paste. This will soften the grease and the debris.
- Step #4: Once the vinegar and the paste have done their job, reach in and scrub off the cleaning mixture and the softened grease.

Cream Of Tartar Works
For this round, I decided to use cream of tartar. You may have seen a bottle of cream of tartar in your grandmas spice cabinet and wondered about its use.
Pssst. Cream of tartar is the secret to making delicious low-calorie, low-fat, gluten-free Meringue Cookies.
What is Cream of Tartar?
Cream of tartar is a byproduct of wine-making and wine makes everything better, so I figured Id give it a try. Plus, I know from experience that cream of tartar is fantastic at removing rust. Its also the secret to really getting baked on grease off of aluminum, as I found out.
Added to the Mix, It Does the Trick
I sprinkled equal parts baking soda and cream of tartar powders on my toaster oven tray about one tablespoon each. Next, I sprayed just enough hydrogen peroxide to make a paste with my fingers.
After about 15 minutes, I scrubbed the toaster oven tray with a kitchen sponge and, voila, a shiny tray!
Another round of cleaning would probably get rid of the stuff in the corners of the tray, but at least the cooking surface is finally clean.
So, there you have it: a mix of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and cream of tartar get baked-on grease off of aluminum sheets successfully.

Practice Good Cooking Techniques
Good cooking techniques are a gamechanger and can drastically reduce the grease and gunk youre gonna have to deal with.
Its always important to preheat your pan just like an oven, and also preheat the cooking fat youre going to use. You can also dry meat and fish before cooking it by patting it dry.
Baking Soda And Water
Baking soda’s a great all-purpose cleaning solution for lots of things around the house. Mixed with water you can use it to remove tarnish from copper, juice and coffee stains from countertops, discoloration on stainless steel and, you guessed it, hard-to-remove grease. Baking soda is an alkali, which means it does a great job of dissolving grease. And because it’s mild, it destroys grease without destroying your hands or the surfaces you’re cleaning. Just mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 cup of water. Use the solution on a sponge to scrub away light grease stains from hard surfaces, like countertops, linoleum, the stovetop and even pots and pans.
Prevent grease from sticking to pots and pans in the first place by pouring some club soda into the pan while it’s still warm and letting it sit until you’re ready to wash it.

How I Removed Baked
First, I turned the pan upside down in my kitchen sink, and sprayed it with plain water.
Then I sprinkled the cleanser over the bottom and sides of the skillet
And gave it a gentle rub with a Scotch Brite Non-Scratch sponge.
Since the powdered cleanser didnt cover the sides of skillet terribly well, I then mixed up a not-too-thick solution of Bar Keepers Friend and water, and poured it over the pan, letting the slurry run over the sides. I left the slurry to soak for 5 minutes.
Then I rubbed the bottom and sides of the pan with the Scotch Brite sponge. Already the scorch marks and grease were starting to loosen up. I let the pan rest again for 5 minutes, still covered in the sudsy solution.
Another gentle scrubbing, et voila! the bottoms and sides of the pan looked as clean as the day the skillet was born!
Then I flipped the pan over, and sponged the slurry over the badly-stained rivets. These, too, rubbed clean after a 5-minute soak.
Here is the skillet, all shiny and dry. So shiny, in fact, that it reflects a bimbo in a green sweatshirt taking a picture.
The inside of the skillet looks as good as the outside. Needless to say, Bar Keepers Friend is now MY friend. Today I ran out and purchased 2 more cans of the stuff. You know, just in case theres a run on the product after people read this post. For which I am not being paid.
How Often Should I Clean The Oven
Like kitchen countertop cleaning, the frequency of oven cleaning depends mostly on your cooking habits. If you dont use your oven often, youll only have to clean its interior once or twice a year.
However, if youre using it multiple times a week, it wont be long before it becomes greasy and stained. In these cases, cleaning the oven at least once every 2-3 months is crucial in order to avoid foodborne illness.

How To Get Baked

By Mavis Butterfield on –
I got a question from a reader about a grease problem. While most of you probably wont be dealing with what shes dealing with, I thought Id share my response, as youll probably encounter baked-on grease at least once in your life. Now youll know how to get it off!
We moved into a rental house 2 years ago and the oven and stove top was coated with grease and the house smelled like a fast food fryer. I cleaned and cleaned until it wasnt such a hazard. Well, after 2 years my cookie sheets, muffin tins, and pots and pans have baked on grease on them. I can literally scrape the grease off with a fingernail, yuck! I really dont want to throw my high quality baking items out when I move later this summer, but I dont want to use them in my new range at our next house if they are so yucky. Do you have any suggestions or methods to clean them and bring them back to an original state?
Brianna
How you clean your pots and pans depends on what type they are. Here are the cleaning methods for 3 different pan types:
Non-stick
Aluminum
Make a paste using baking soda and water. Rub it all over the grease spots. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then scrub.
Stainless Steel
Sprinkle your pan with baking soda and drizzle on some vinegar. Let sit for 10 minutes, then scrub with a stainless steel scrubbing pad.
Any secret cleaning method you know about that we should be using? Share below!
