Dont you just love easy, one-pot meals? I know I do! Especially when theyre naturally gluten-free recipes. Thats whats so great about this baked pork chops and rice recipe. Its super easy, while being filling and delicious. And did I mention man pleasing?

Ive never met a man who didnt love tender, baked pork chops.

What I love so much about this recipe is that you can bake it in the slow cooker, and just let it cook most of the day, while you dont even think about it. Its such a stress relief to go about your day, knowing that dinner is already taken care of, you know?

Or you can bake it in the oven for a quicker dish. Still delicious. Still easy, but more of a last minute thing.

Either way, the end result is tender pork chops, seasoned to perfection with salt, pepper, and sage, and rice, cooked in chicken broth which, as simple as it sounds, has definitely become one of my favorite comfort foods. Rice. Chicken broth. It honestly just does not get any better than that!

I grew up cooking with chicken bullion cubes, but what made me such a fan of chicken-rice is making my own slow cooker chicken broth. Its amazing. It elevates your rice from simple food, to gourmet. Plus it kicks the nutrition up by several notches. Win-win, I say!

  • Use gooey melting cheese like mozzarella or cheddar. Much like lasagne, youll have a gorgeously stringy topping to enjoy.
  • Cut the fried pork chops into segments before layering. While it might look nicer keeping each piece whole, cutting them into thick strips makes it much easier to cut and serve.
  • As with every recipe that asks for marinating, youll get the deepest flavor when the protein is marinated for longer.

Today I want to show you how to make it. Restaurant-level color, flavor, and aroma! Its guaranteed that even beginners can prepare it successfully. And the most important tip is how to cut the pork chop. Just cut with a couple of knives where the tendons are on the edge of the meat so it doesnt shrink. The secret tip for tenderizing pork chops is to add beaten egg and cornstarch, which make the pork chop tender and juicy.I usually prepare portions for a few days, marinate the pork chops and freeze them separately, mix the sweet and sour sauce in a jar, and put it in the refrigerator. Tips For The Best Baked Pork Chops And Rice Recipe

  • Thick cut pork chops are my preference, since they don’t dry out as easily in the oven. If you have thin pork chops, that’s fine — just pull them out of the dish sooner. The total cooking time for your pork chops will vary depending on the size, type, and thickness of your meat. Bone-in chops often take a bit longer than boneless, and thick-cut need more time than thin chops.
  • The pork chops are done when they reach an internal temperature of 145°F.For thick-cut bone-in chops, this typically takes about 30-45 minutes in a 350°F oven. I like to remove the chops from the dish as soon as they reach 145°F so that the meat stays juicy. If you prefer your pork chops very well done, you can leave them in the dish for the full 1 hour .
  • Onion Soup Mix: the onion soup mix has a fairly strong, salty flavor, so adjust the amount of seasoning that you use on your pork chops to your liking. If you prefer less onion taste, use only part of the seasoning packet.
  • Brown rice has a much longer baking time than the long grain white rice, so I don’t recommend using brown rice in this recipe. I also do not recommend instant rice, since the instant rice has a much shorter baking time .

How To Store And Reheat

Store any leftover pork chops and rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where it’ll keep for 3 to 4 days.

For longer storage, you can freeze the dish in a freezer safe container.

I would recommend reheating pork and rice as individual portions in the microwave. But, it can be done in the oven.

If you’re reheating the whole dish, or most of it, you can put it back in the oven at 325 degrees f. For a smoother reheating process, take the pork off the bone before you pop it back into the oven. How much time it needs depends on how much pork there is left.

Preparation And Storage Tips

  • Do not assemble this dish too far in advance of baking, because the rice will start to absorb the liquid as it sits .
  • Wrapped tightly, leftover oven baked pork chops and rice will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. The texture of the rice after freezing will be mushier, though, so freezing the cooked rice is not my preference.
  • How to Reheat: Cover with foil and bake in a 325°F oven just until warmed through .

How To Make Baked Pork Chops And Rice:

Preheat oven to 425F degrees. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add in butter until it starts to melt, then add in rice along with celery and onion. Stir and cook until rice begins to brown slightly and onion and celery soften just a bit. Then put rice mixture into bottom of 9×13-inch baking dish.

Pour beef broth over rice. Also add in Worcestershire sauce

Using that same skillet, over high heat, add in a couple tbsp. vegetable oil. Season both sides of pork chops lightly with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Place 2 pork chops in skillet at a time and brown both sides. You aren’t cooking them all the way through. You just want to get a nice brown color on both sides . Follow the same process for the last 2 pork chops.

Place pork chops on top of rice mixture in baking dish. Cover baking dish with aluminum foil.

Place in oven and bake for about 35-40 minutes. The rice should be tender and the liquid absorbed and pork chops should be thoroughly cooked to 145F degrees.

I sprinkled a little dried parsley on top to give it a little color. This is not necessary.

How To Reheat Leftover Pork Chops And Rice

The best way to reheat this seared pork chop recipe would be in the oven at 350°F until it is heated through. Your other option would be the microwave for 45 to 60 seconds until you reach your desired temperature.

If you are reheating the frozen leftovers, pull them out 24 hours ahead of time and let them thaw in the fridge.

Ingredients Needed For Pork Chops And Rice

Pork Chops I always use bone-in pork chops for this recipe. They have more flavor than boneless pork chops. But feel free to use your favorite.

Butter Everything is better with butter, right?

Yellow Rice This makes the dish flavorful. I love yellow rice over white rice any day. However, I have not tried this recipe with any other kind of rice, so therefore I can not advise on the taste if you switch out the yellow rice.

Onion Soup Mix One package of soup mix adds a lot of flavor to the dish.

Sliced Mushrooms These are optional, but I am a mushroom lover so I never leave them out. They add more texture and taste.

    Choosing The Right Pork Chop

I have become more picky about my pork chops and this dish can be the worst one to dry out pork chops. I always get the super thick cut pork chops at Costco and make sure that they have a nice fat layer on the outside. You can use boneless or bone in pork chops, it is your preference entirely.

Thin pork chops require a different cooking method, see my next paragraph for some more tips on how to make sure these cook properly!
