How To Roll It Out

Although this dough is a little sticky, I find it quite easy to roll out with my rolling pin on a silicone mat. Roll the dough out to between ¼ and ½ thick. As there are no raising agents in this dough, the thickness of the biscuits at this stage will be the thickness of the cooked biscuits.

Here is where you can really customize this home-made dog treat recipe for your dog!

  • Use a larger cookie cutter for bigger dogs.
  • Make the biscuits as thick or thin as is best for your dog.
  • And if you dont have a cookie cuttercut the dough into small square treats!

If you are having trouble rolling out a sticky dough

Placing a piece of wax paper overtop the dough and using your rolling pin on top of the wax paper will prevent the dough from sticking to your rolling pin.

And if you start rolling the dough and it is too crumbly

Dont be afraid of overworking the dough. You can scoop it back up and add in a bit more of a wet ingredient. Water, unsweetened oat milk, or a bit more peanut butter or pumpkin will all work. Then, roll the dough out again.

A Look At Whats Inside

Oats – No matter what you call it: oatmeals, oatenas or oats, whole grains are good for dogs. Dogs love oatmeal so much they’ll eat it any time of day. Oats have fiber, which can keep your dog’s blood sugar in check, so it won’t get diabetes.

Carrots – While giving dogs carrots as a treat may seem strange, they can help keep your dog’s teeth clean by scraping away plaque and tartar, and they can also keep his breath smelling fresh. Check out this meatball recipe for homemade dog treats that come from carrots.

Cheese – Cheese tastes great in homemade dog treats. It adds protein and flavor. Some cheeses, like cheddar, are high in fat, so your dog will have energy to do his dog stuff. The calcium keeps your dog’s bones strong. Cheese is a favorite among dogs, so once you give him some, he’ll be happy.

Peanut Butter – Peanut butter isn’t just for humans. It’s actually better for dogs than it is for humans. That’s because it’s got protein and healthy fats to keep your dog healthy.

It’s packed with vitamins and minerals like B2, B5, B6, B12, niacin, biotin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, and folic acid. Vitamin A and B6 are in there, plus zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus. Peanut butter has a lot of protein, too. Peanut butter has 7.6 grams of protein, so it’ll make him strong.

What 3 Ingredients Do I Need For This Home

DIY No Bake Dog Treats!

The three simple ingredients for this home-made dog treat recipe are:

  • Cooked sweet potato
  • All natural peanut butter
  • And oat flour

AND if youre hoping for an even simpler option that requires no cooking of the sweet potato you can use canned pumpkin puree!

Dogs love pumpkin and its very healthy for them as long as the pumpkin you are using is not sweetened! Make sure you are not using pumpkin pie filling which often has sweeteners and additives. Your can of pumpkin puree should have pumpkin as the only ingredient listed.

Likewise, the peanut butter you use should have peanuts as the only ingredient listed. Make sure there are no additives that could be harmful to your dog.

And if youre wondering how to make oat flour dont stress! Simply grind the regular quick or rolled oats in your pantry into a fine meal and you have oat flour!

I decided to use all oat flour for this recipe as many dogs are sensitive to wheat. BUTif your dog isnt sensitive to wheat then feel free to make this recipe with whole wheat flour and there will be no grinding of oats involved either!
