Betten Baker Acquires South Haven Dealership
MUSKEGON Betten Baker Auto Group has acquired South Haven Chevrolet Buick GMC, expanding the companys reach to Southwest Michigan.
The deal for the South Haven store, which took effect Jan. 29, will add a 21st location to the growing dealership group, according to a statement.
The Muskegon-based Betten Baker plans to retain all the employees at the Van Buren County dealership location, bringing the companys total headcount to about 900 people.
In 2018, Betten Baker acquired eight dealerships, including Kent City Ford, Midland-based McArdle Buick GMC Cadillac, Cadillac-based Godfrey Chevrolet Buick, Alma Chevrolet Buick and Ithaca Chevrolet.

They did fix it, but I had to drive over an hour each way twice to get it done. If that inspection was done, they would have caught that and seen all that was wrong with it from the Serpentine belt, control arm with ball joint, transmission and engine leaks. Also was told that brakes were just put on. Again, NOPE. Versus fixing the brakes, they just put pads on and I had to get all this fixed. I left the dealership a voicemail to see if they were willing to make some of this right. No one bothered to return my message.More

South Haven Chevrolet Buick GMC is now part of the Betten Baker Auto Group headquartered in Muskegon, a group that is closing in on nearly 1,000 employees and nearly two dozen automobile dealerships in Michigan, and growing rapidly through acquisition.
Bryan Betten and Chris Baker closed the deal for the South Haven dealership and took possession earlier this week, on Tuesday. The new Betten Baker South Haven marks the 21st location in the burgeoning dealership group which now tops 900 employees and growing.
Last year alone Betten Baker acquired eight separate dealerships including Midlands McArdle Buick GMC Cadillac, Alma Chevrolet Buick, Ithaca Chevrolet, Godfrey Chevrolet Buick in the northern Michigan community of Cadillac, and Kent City Ford which they are in the process of relocating to Coopersville where they also recently finished building a new Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram store. The Ford project in Coopersville is slated for an opening here in 2019.
When they acquired Kent City Ford Baker said, We are excited for this next chapter in Betten Baker history. This is one of the biggest expansions we have done, something that will not only change our company, but the way people shop for decades to come.
