Our Baked By Melissa Review
We had the opportunity to try an assortment of Baked By Melissa cupcakes. What a treat!
I got excited when I saw the bright red box get delivered to our door. I can only imagine what an awesome treat it would be to send these to someone as a surprise gift.
My excitement grew as I open the packaged and pulled out the bright tie-dye box inside. The tie-dye box is very sturdy and you just slide the cupcakes right out from the side opening. Very handy.
The company specializes in shipping cupcakes across the company and it shows. The packaging design not only keeps the treats in good shape, it also helps ensure freshness.
You can see in the picture below that even after getting jostled around during transit and flipped around for my photos, the treats arrived in really good shape.
Even those little guys in the middle that turned sideways still had their fluffy frosting intact!
We enjoyed a 25-pack that contained all the tried and true favorites like tie-dye, red velvet, peanut butter and jelly, cookie dough, mint cookies, cookies and cream, chocolate chip pancake and triple chocolate fudge.
This flavor assortment provides a great mix of classic vanilla and chocolate cake, plus other fun tastes like mint, pancake and red velvet.
For frosting, some had chocolate or vanilla icing, while a fair amount had other specialty flavors like peanut butter and maple.
Our pack also contained the mini of the month, Toasted Cinnamon.

oh wow. we were amazed at just how adorable these tiny little cupcakes were! They were the smallest desserts I’ve ever seen…and yet…so good. We couldn’t believe just how much flavor was packed into each tiny bite. Enjoy!
Stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try. Don’t be fooled by the word “cupcake” – because these are more like thimbles! And you are paying $1 each for them! The ones I got were even smaller than the ones in the photos here – barely an inch across. Very cute, I’ll give them that, but when it wasn’t even enough for two bites I’d say kitchey doesn’t trump value. And to be honest, the quality was OK but nothing earth-shattering compared to other gourmet cupcakes I’ve had. Save your bucks for some other snack, would be my suggestion!

What I Didn’t Like About Baked By Melissa Holiday Cupcakes
- The range of flavors. The one big thing I noticed while trying out the cupcakes was the prevalence of chocolate, which is not a negative by any means, but I did notice that the chocolate cake flavor seemed to dominate both boxes. If someone in your life loves chocolate cake, they’ll be pleased, but otherwise they may be a bit disappointed by the spread.
- The emphasis on packaging * This is a small complaint, but it would have been exciting to see a wider variety of holiday flavors, rather than a wide variety of holiday boxes.

The difference is that you can crush a package of Baked by Melissa cupcakes in one evening , whereas with Milkbar or Jenis, you get enough treats to last several days.

What I Liked About Baked By Melissa Holiday Cupcakes

Apart from the absolute joy of opening the front door to find a box of delicious cupcakes on my front steps, here are the things I enjoyed most about the Baked by Melissa holiday cupcakes:
- The holiday flavors tasted like what they claimed. One thing I really loved about the holiday flavors was how evocative they were of the actual things they claimed to be. Really, the brightest star out of the two boxes was the Festival Babka cupcake, which was the favorite not only for me, but for the three other individuals that happened to try the cupcakes over the course of the day, and had the cinnamon-y, buttery elements of a real babka. The Caramel Hot Cocoa flavor was a close second, and with the addition of the sweet little marshmallow tasted very reminiscent of a mug of hot cocoa.
- The packaging. The presentation of Baked by Melissas cupcakes is something weve talked about before, but having never ordered them myself I was extremely impressed by the packaging they came in and the quality of the holiday boxes.
- The freshness of the cupcakes. Since I live in New York City, I can’t vouch for the quality of the cupcakes once they’ve been shipped cross-country, but our initial reviewer noted that the cupcakes that she received tasted “like they came straight from a nearby bakery.”

My husband and I stopped here briefly since we noticed a sign that said “vegan” cupcakes. We went in and learned that they were the only one of this chain that carries vegan cupcakes. They have regular ones as well plus they make party packs…for special occasions such as graduations.The vegan cupcakes are made with almond milk and a substitute ingredient is used for eggs. We were permitted to sample one of our choice since they came in only 6 flavors. My husband had a peanut butter and I had a chocolate chip one. They were basically only 1 bite. Cost for these cupcakes is $3.00 each. The others you can get 2 for close to $3.00. While they were good still that seems so little for what you are spending.Nevertheless as with everything vegan prepare to spend more if you prefer that type. They do not permit sampling of the regular cupcakes so you would have to purchase it and take your chances.The morsel was just enough to satisfy our sweet tooth. I inquired about transporting it and was told that without refrigeration they would only last a day. So much for bringing one home with me.Baked by Melissa is a chain dessert shop you would find all over the city. It is very small but carries a wide assortment.More

As I mentioned above, I am a huge sweets fan. I learned how to bake as soon as I moved out of my parents house because I didnt want to live in a world where I couldnt have immediate access to baked goods at any given time. As a result, Ive become picky about which pre-made treats Ill buy for myself since I learned I could get superior desserts by just making them at home.
All that being said, cupcakes from Baked by Melissa exceeded my expectations. These tiny treats tasted like they came straight from a nearby bakery, despite the fact that they were shipped from New York City. Each cupcake was deliciously moist and flavorful, and even though they were bite-sized, they delivered an immense punch.
