To Make These Halloween Candy Cookie Bars You Will Need:
- unbleached all-purpose flour
- Reeses Pieces
- chocolate M& Ms
First, line a 9 x 13 x 2 baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray with nonstick spray. Then, in a medium bowl, combine 2-1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda and 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Stir and set off to the side.
Next, in the bowl of your stand mixer, add butter and both sugars.
Blend on medium to medium-low speed until creamy.
Add one egg at a time, mixing well after each one.
Measure and add 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract with the last egg.
Continue mixing until the last egg and vanilla have been incorporated. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl.
Add half of the flour mixture and mix on low until just incorporated, before adding the rest.
Again, scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl one last time.
To the cookie dough, add 1/2 cup each Reeses pieces and chocolate M& Ms.
I mix by hand until the candies are mixed throughout.
Transfer the dough to your prepared pan.
Either lightly spray your fingers with nonstick spray or use a sheet of wax paper or parchment to press the dough evenly in the pan.
FYI the wax paper/parchment route is the cleanest.
Slip the pan onto the middle rack of your preheated 350° oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Rotate the pan halfway through.
Why not bake the bars WITH the candy bars on top? In my opinion, the oven does weird things to the chocolate. I dont think candy bars should be baked either unless they are IN the dough.

Today we celebrate Halloween with these Halloween themed bakery style cookies.
Thick and chewy bakery style chocolate cookies filled with Halloween themes M& Ms.
Now, I used a mixture of chocolate chips and Halloween themes M& Ms but you could use regular M& Ms or any other chocolate candy that remains you of Halloween!
I have many cookie recipes on my blog but the bakery style is a reader . The method is the same as my original bakery style chocolate chip cookies recipe using cold butter to ensure the cookies do not spread too much and remain chewy.
Thick cookies that are soft in the middle and chewy on the outside.
How To Make The Halloween Sugar Cookies
- First cream together the butter and sugar. You want to start with butter than is slightly softened, about 20-30 minutes. If youre in a pinch, throw it in the microwave for 10 seconds, but no longer!
- Next, add the liquid ingredients. This recipe calls for baking soda to be dissolved in milk. Its nothing fancy, just stir it in and add it together with the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Finally, add the dry ingredients. Its just flour and a pinch of salt.
- Chill the dough. You cant skip this step. Chilled dough makes it MUCH easier for you to roll it out the dough and also helps them from spreading while theyre baking. However, this dough does not require a very long chill time.
- Roll out the dough. Be sure to use a well-floured surface, and roll your dough at least 1/4 inch thick. Brush away any excess flour with a pastry brush.
- Bake your cookies. I like to keep my pans rotating through the oven, so by the time one comes out, another goes in. I also only bake one tray at a time because I dont want them to bake unevenly on a top or bottom rack. One tray at a time, baked in the middle of your oven.
- Time to decorate! Have fun, be creative and dont be too hard on yourself.

How To Make Trick
Make one or more batches of cut out cookie dough and after chilling it take it out of the fridge to warm up so it can be rolled out. Preheat your oven to 350 and clear a shelf in your fridge or a spot in your freezer large enough to hold a cookie sheet.
Roll out one half of your dough between two sheets of parchment paper to a 1/4th inch thickness. Remove the top layer of parchment and cut out your cookies, dipping the cutter in flour to keep it from sticking. Well be baking the cookies on this same parchment so space them about an inch apart.
Right now you are cutting two parts of each cookies so if you have an asymmetrical cutter be sure to flip it over and cut half of them mirror image, as shown above.
Trim the parchment away from the dough so that its small enough to sit on your cookie sheet and slide the parchment onto the cookie sheet. Put this in the fridge or freezer to firm up so you can pull away the excess dough.
Later well baking the cookies right on this sheet so trimming the parchment means theyll bake flat. I keep the cookies on this same parchment throughout so they dont have a chance to lose their shape.
Once the dough has firmed up pull away the excess from around the cut out shapes. You can save the scraps for more cookies later.
Before baking chill the cookies and the cookie sheet again for about 10 minutes before putting them in the oven.
Glue the middle part of your cookie to the bottom.

Prepare these cookies as the base, use refrigerated dough , or use store-bought chocolate chip cookies. Once you have the cookie base ready, refer to instruction #2 to continue creating these cookies!

Why Do We Celebrate Halloween
Halloween is a combination of a number of ancient festivals, namely the Celtic festival of Samhain, All Saints Day and the Roman festival of Feralia.
Samhain marked the end of the harvest season and the end of the lighter half of the year leading into the darker, winter season. It was believed that at this time of the year the boundaries between the world of the living and dead became thin and the dead could cross over causing sickness and havoc with crops.

Pinwheel Halloween Sugar Cookies
Call a shrink, I have dessert commitment issues. This weekend I was going to bake some yummy fall flavored treatsand today I was going to post all about buttercream neither of which I did. I laid everything out on the counter and even opened the can of pumpkinbut then the idea for these Pinwheel Halloween sugar cookies popped in my head and I had to make them. Im not a bit disappointed because these came out perfect! But between y0u and me, Ive already got Christmas on the brainno Im not crazy, Im a blogger :).
When making these cookies you want to make sure you are using a sugar cookie recipe that doesnt spread much as well as colors well. For these cookies, I used my rolled sugar cookie recipe. Even though this sugar cookie recipe is generally used to be iced and decorated, they stand alone just fine. Honestly, I couldnt believe just how well the colors came out! They are vibrant and just plain fun.
Normally, I would recommend you keep anything with more than two feet away from your treatsbut with these Halloween sugar cookies, these spiders made the perfect little garnish. Just cheap spider rings that can be found about anywhere this time of year . But they are a perfect pair whether your packaging these up to give or sitting them out on a platter.
And serving them up with some Halloween edition blackberry kool-aid is a pretty cool touch.
