Cheese âCheese tastes great in homemade dog treats. It adds protein and flavor. Some cheeses, like cheddar, are high in fat, so your dog will have energy to do his dog stuff. The calcium keeps your dogâs bones strong. Cheese is a favorite among dogs, so once you give him some, heâll be happy.

Peanut Butter âPeanut butter isnât just for humans. Itâs actually better for dogs than it is for humans. Thatâs because itâs got protein and healthy fats to keep your dog healthy.

Itâs packed with vitamins and minerals like B2, B5, B6, B12, niacin, biotin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, and folic acid. How To Roll It Out

Although this dough is a little sticky, I find it quite easy to roll out with my rolling pin on a silicone mat. Roll the dough out to between ¼ and ½ thick. As there are no raising agents in this dough, the thickness of the biscuits at this stage will be the thickness of the cooked biscuits.

Here is where you can really customize this home-made dog treat recipe for your dog!

    • Use a larger cookie cutter for bigger dogs.
    • Make the biscuits as thick or thin as is best for your dog.
    • And if you dont have a cookie cuttercut the dough into small square treats!

If you are having trouble rolling out a sticky dough

Placing a piece of wax paper overtop the dough and using your rolling pin on top of the wax paper will prevent the dough from sticking to your rolling pin.

And if you start rolling the dough and it is too crumbly

Dont be afraid of overworking the dough. You can scoop it back up and add in a bit more of a wet ingredient. Water, unsweetened oat milk, or a bit more peanut butter or pumpkin will all work. Then, roll the dough out again.

    Simple Sweet Potato Dog Biscuits

Sweet potatoes or pumpkins? Which is best for your dog treats?

They are both good in their own rights. They are both nutritious ingredients that your dog will love.

Your dog may love the sugary content in the sweet potatoes. Careful at the quantity because this means that it has more calorie content.

    • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour

    Method

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
    • Use a fork to prick the potato skin several times.
    • Heat the sweet potato in the microwave for approximately 6 minutes or until it is tender. Pick up potato flesh from the peels, and discard the peels
    • Mash the sweet potato, and fill a cup with the mashed sweet potatoes
    • Mix applesauce, eggs and whole wheat flour in a large mixing bowl. Add the cup of mashed sweet potato and mix until you achieve a consistent dough.
    • Roll the dough until itâs approx. ½ inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to shape them into desired shapes
    • Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until its crisp
    • Cool in the baking pan for approx. 10 minutes. You can then continue cooling the on cooling rack.

This is a healthy treat for your dog. Just be sure to give the right amount.

Tip: Store the rest in an airtight container and just give one at a time.
