Puppy Paw Peanut Butter Apple Treats

How To Bake Your Own Puppy Treats At Home Tasty

These peanut butter biscuits are an easy treat that can be whipped up just as fast as it would take for you to buy treats at the store. Try out this fun recipe that your dog is sure to love!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 large apple, cored, peeled, and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • ¼ cup natural peanut butter
  • Whole wheat flour for dusting

Let’s get baking!

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • In a food processor fitted with a blade attachment, add in the apple pieces and process to make a puree.
  • Add the rolled oats and continue to process until the oats begin to break down.
  • Add the peanut butter. Continue to process until the ingredients are combined and begin to form a dough ball. If the dough seems dry, add water, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Sprinkle a flat surface with whole wheat flour, then transfer the dough to your floured surface. Roll out the dough to about a ¼ inch thickness, then use a medium paw print-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the “cookies.”
  • Transfer each cookie onto a lined baking sheet and place the baking sheet in the oven.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are just barely starting to darken.
  • Cool completely and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a week.
  • Recipe Notes:

    How To Roll It Out

Although this dough is a little sticky, I find it quite easy to roll out with my rolling pin on a silicone mat. Roll the dough out to between ¼” and ½” thick. As there are no raising agents in this dough, the thickness of the biscuits at this stage will be the thickness of the cooked biscuits.

Here is where you can really customize this home-made dog treat recipe for your dog!

    • Use a larger cookie cutter for bigger dogs.
    • Make the biscuits as thick or thin as is best for your dog.
    • And if you don’t have a cookie cuttercut the dough into small square treats!

If you are having trouble rolling out a sticky dough…

Placing a piece of wax paper overtop the dough and using your rolling pin on top of the wax paper will prevent the dough from sticking to your rolling pin.

And if you start rolling the dough and it is too crumbly…

Don’t be afraid of overworking the dough. You can scoop it back up and add in a bit more of a wet ingredient. Water, unsweetened oat milk, or a bit more peanut butter or pumpkin will all work. Then, roll the dough out again.

Can You Use All Purpose Flour In Peanut Butter Dog Treat Recipes

Yes, you can. Just like the answer about peanut butter above, some dogs can be allergic to things like gluten found in regular flour.

Whole wheat flour can have some more nutrients which is always great, or you can use an alternative flour like coconut flour.

I always recommend letting your dog sample a small amount before giving them lots of treats, because dogs can be allergic to anything, just like people!

How To Make Our Homemade Dog Treats :

I am 100% not the type of person who makes food for their dog, except for that right now, this exact very minute, I am that person. !!! I do not even know myself anymore. Making my own dog treats? Honestly. File under Things You Said Youd Never Do That Now Bring You a Weird Amount of Great Joy.

Something about the holidays and the music and the snow and cuddly Sage in a French blue striped turtleneck sweater just got to me, and in a moment of Christmas miraculousness, I became that person that I always rolled my eyes at. A little pumpkin, a little peanut butter, and a little whole wheat flour later, and we were in dog treat business.

Thankfully, Sage doesnt have any special allergies or dietary needs, so theres really no reason for me to make her homemade dog treats other than the fact that I love her something fierce and needed a break from cookies for a minute. But conveniently, this homemade dog treats recipe makes a TON and we know lots of other neighbor-ly dogs who can and will appreciate a little gift bag of soft-baked, peanut butter and bacon glazed homemade dog treats.

Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats are sure to be a new favorite!

Ive been making homemade dog biscuits for my girl since she was a few years old. Homemade treats are really easy and Ive been testing out some new recipes.

Like most dogs, Sugar is a fan of peanut butter and since Im trying out a few new flavor combinations, this one was a no brainer.

    How To Make Dog Treats:

Preheat your oven to 300F . Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add the oats to a food processor and grind until they reach a fine powder. .

Add the bananas and peanut butter…

…and blend until a sticky dough is formed.

Remove from the food processor and roll out on a lightly floured surface. . I used a heart cookie cutter to cut out these homeade dog treats but you could use any cookie cutter, or just cut them into squares with a knife or pizza cutter.

Lay the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the treats are puffed up a bit, dry and dark brown on the bottoms, . The treats will get a bit more firm once they are cool but will still be a slightly softer dog treat. Let cool before giving one to your pup.

Store in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or I like to store them in my freezer which makes them firmer and makes them stay fresh a long time.
