Faq: How Can I Make The Dough Ahead Of Time

Worldâs Easiest Pizza Dough⦠ready to bake in less than 2 hours (no-knead âhands-freeâ? technique)

Prepare the dough through step 3 below, but allow the dough to rise for 8-12 hours in the refrigerator. As a bonus, the slow rise gives the pizza dough wonderful flavor! When ready, continue with step 5 in the recipe below . If the dough didnt quite double in size when rising, let it sit at room temperature for 30-45 minutes before shaping.

The Secret For Best Pepperoni Flavor

There are so many different kinds of pepperoni in the store these days, and you can use any of those options for pizza. For my money, though, I prefer small, thinly sliced pepperoni so they get a nice char on top. If you go with thicker pepperoni slices, you’ll have a chewier texture. It’s personal preference!

I always find it lame when I get a pepperoni pizza that has, like, five pieces of pepperoni on it. But if you pile on a ton of pepperoni, you end up with a greasy mess.

So what to do? Chop up half the pepperoni and add it in a layer under the cheese with the sauce!

This gives the pizza amazing pepperoni flavor. I call it my “Bonus Pepperoni” layer!

Do I Need To Knead Quick Pizza Dough

Yes. But I broke this recipe down into a few super easy steps. And this dough you only have to knead just a LITTLE.

  • Stir together the ingredients to form a shaggy dough
  • Throw the dough on the counter and knead for 4-ish minutes.
  • Add more flour if things are too sticky
  • Stretch the dough onto a well-floured surface. Sometimes I make circle pizzas. Sometimes they look like blobs. No one cares. They taste good.
  • Put all your toppings on the pizza. If you want to be fancy, this Kale Pesto is soooooooooo good on pizza. Just an idea.
  • Bake the pizza.EAT THE PIZZA.

Here I give you the quick instructions on how to bake pizza at home first, but make sure to read on to find more detailed explanations and tips below.

  • Turn on your oven and set it to the highest heat possible. If you have a convection oven, or even better one with a pizza setting, turn those settings on.Thats right. While most homemade pizza recipes call for 400-450 degrees , the closer you can get to the real pizza oven temperature, the more authentic and yummy your homemade pizza will be.
  • Let your oven warm up completely. This takes at least 20 minutes, but for some models it can take up to one hour.
  • Get your pizza ready in a pizza pan with the sauce and the toppings. For instructions, see my homemade pizza sauce recipe.
  • Place your pizza pan with your pizza on it on the lowest rack of your oven, but not on the bottom.
  • Baking time depends on your oven and pizza size. I find a regular pizza needs approx. 10 minutes, while a small pizza is baked in 8 minutes. Please see my tips below to find the best way of baking your pizza at home.
  • Your pizza is ready when it has a crisp, slightly browned edge. Take it out of the oven, and let it rest for 1 minute. Your perfectly baked homemade pizza is now ready to be served.

How To Cook Your Pizza Dough

This totally depends on your cooking vehicle and your recipe, but if you are home-cooking, here are my rules of thumb:

When you are ready to bake your pizza dough, it will typically take 10 minutes in a 500°F oven for a Neapolitan style, or 14-15 minutes in at 450°F oven for a thicker crust.

***However if you have a woodfired pizza oven, more power to you. Go up to 950°F and cook for 1-2 minutes see heaven.

Deliciously good and easy-to-make homemade dough is the way to go, but store-bought dough works too. Buy two 1-pound balls of pizza dough or make any one of the following homemade pizza dough recipes:

Let homemade dough rise overnight or up to 18 hours at room temperature. It will develop a lot of flavor and produce the prized large air bubbles in the dough. If you refrigerate the dough for longer storage, be sure to take it out of the fridge about an hour ahead of time to bring it to room temperature.

PIZZA with Trader Joe’s Ready to Bake PIZZA DOUGH

There are a few methods to thaw frozen dough, but my favorite is to remove the dough from the freezer bags and place each ball in a large bowl to allow room for rising. The dough should be ready to use in 2 hours and to roll and continue to use as stated in the recipe below.

The dough still does not need to rise, but it may expand a bit while coming to room temperature and that’s ok.

Should Pizza Toppings Be Cooked First

To avoid cooking on the pizzas hot surface, its tempting to let toppings completely cook on the crust. Most vegetables can be consumed in this manner, but meat should never be. Before going, make sure all meats and even tougher vegetables, such as broccoli, are well-cooked.

When uncooked spinach and raw onions are added to your pizza prior to baking, they will not be cooked properly. You can minimize pizza pitfalls by preparing your toppings ahead of time. Chicken, ground beef, sausage, fish, shellfish, and pork, as well as any raw products, should always be cooked ahead of time. Despite the fact that raw broccoli florets cook quickly in a hot oven, some broccoli florets may be off-limits due to their strong aroma. To bring out the umami in your pie, use mushrooms that range in flavor from hearty Portobellos to mild creminis. Adding winter squash varieties like acorn and kabocha to your pizza is a great way to add variety to your dish.

Do You Blind Bake Pizza Crust

It is best to bake the pizza while it is still hot in the preheating oven for 8 minutes. This is referred to as blind baking. You will be able to keep your crust from getting soggy as a result of it. Remove the crust from the oven and top it off with your favorite topping.

Baking Blind Baking Pizza Crust is a method of protecting pie crusts from fillings with moist ingredients. It can be used to keep the structure of your thin crust pizza. Because the heat from the blind bake has been retained, the egg wash acts as a barrier between the sauce and toppings.

Pies and pastries are made with blind baking, a technique that entails placing them in a glass dish. You can prevent crusts from crumbling and becoming soggy by using this method. Dried beans are a common ingredient in blind baking. These beans keep the crust from sticking to the pan because they keep it from becoming too heavy. You can also use pie weights or rice to achieve the same result. Blind baking is an excellent method for giving your pie or muffin golden crust.

Crusty bread is usually the simplest: flour, water, yeast, and salt. They do NOT use eggs, butter, sour cream, sugar, mashed potatoes, or anything else that might turn them into softies. Sure, you might see a crusty bread recipe calling for a teaspoon of sugar, a tablespoon of butter, or a tablespoon of dried milk powder. These small amounts of softening agents may keep the loafs interior tender but wont affect the crusts crispness.

Soft dinner rolls arent meant to be crusty dont force them beyond their comfort zone because therein lies disappointment.

    Stromboli From Pizza Dough

You can make 1 stromboli with 1 pound of store-bought or homemade pizza dough. Even though store-bought dough is convenient, I encourage you to try this homemade dough. It requires just 6 basic ingredients and about 60-90 minutes of rise time.

2 Important Notes on my Pizza Dough:

    • My pizza dough yields about 2 lbs of dough, which is enough for 2 strombolis or 1 stromboli + a batch of cheesy breadsticks, 1 pizza, or even 8 garlic knots.
    • I dont recommend halving this dough recipe. You can try, but for absolute best results, make the full recipe. If you only need 1 stromboli, freeze the other half of dough for another time. I promise youll want to make stromboli again.

Its really handy to have 1 all-purpose dough that works in many different ways youll appreciate its ease and versatility. I use this exact dough for ham & cheese pockets and pepperoni pizza rolls, too.

    Pillsbury Canned Classic Pizza Dough

Pillsbury’s pizza dough was truly the dark horse winner of the bunch. First things firstthis dough is not sexy. It comes in a tube, which is totally nostalgic if you ever overdid it on canned cinnamon rolls as a kid. Out of the can, the dough feels sticky and even a touch greasy. The instructions, however, are foolproofsimply plop the dough log onto a cookie sheet, unroll, and bake.

In a 400 degree oven, the dough baked for about 18 minutes total. It had a more pronounced golden-brown color than other doughs we tested, and it also smelled a touch buttery. Yes, this crust was the most processed of the bunch, but everyone loved it so much, no one seemed to notice. In fact, when the brand was revealed to our tasters, no one believed it.

Tasters praised Pillsbury’s pizza crust for its slightly sweet taste and good amount of salt. Another commented on the super crispy outside, but buttery and fluffy inside. One taster pointed out an unexpected quality, It tastes a little nutty, kind of like whole-wheat.

Note: Pillsbury also makes a classic pizza dough with no preservatives. We don’t reccomend this product. The dough is a total mess and it bakes up way too crispy.

How to Make Pizza With Ready to Bake Pizza Dough

Homemade pizza is right around the corner!

Theres something wonderfully easy about making pizza at home, especially when all you have to do is roll out some pizza dough, throw some toppings on, and bake it in the oven for 10 minutes. I find that making big batches of pizza dough ahead of time and keeping it in the freezer really makes the process extra easy. And like the other freezer-friendly meals, pizza dough freezes beautifully. I actually think the texture of the dough is better than if you just make the dough right before dinner time. This basic pizza dough recipe makes four crusts and can be kept in the freezer for future meal planning.

From Joanne Ozug of Fifteen Spatulas.

The grocery store by my apartment charges $9 for 4 balls of pizza dough, and it makes me laugh because that sounds so expensive.

If you have a stand mixer, its very little work and very easy to make your own. Let me show you how to do it!

To get started, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer and let it sit for 10 minutes, until its foamy. This lets you know that the yeast is alive and ready for action.

Next add bread flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast water mixture.

Use the dough hook or a wooden spoon to mix this all together until roughly combined.

Fit the bowl and dough hook on the stand mixer and knead for about 10 minutes on medium low until the dough is relatively smooth.

Move the dough to a floured surface and divide it into four even pieces.

  • Prepare Pizza Dough For Baking

Now that youre done creating your base, its time to move to the next steps in how to make homemade pizza with store bought dough.

Cover your baking sheet with parchment paper. You may want to drizzle olive oil as it not only stops your dough from sticking to the paper but also adds flavor to your pizza.

Slowly pick up your dough and lay it on the baking sheet. Be gentle as you dont want to break or fold your dough. With your fingers, push your dough outward until it covers the baking sheet up to the edges.

Heres a tip: Use a fork to poke tiny holes in the dough. Called docking, this process stops big bubbles from forming. This is one of the issues commonly encountered when people learn how to make homemade pizza with store bought dough.
