SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The six-game suspension Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was given Monday for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy didn’t draw a big reaction from the quarterback he replaced.
Baker Mayfield, traded from Cleveland to the Carolina Panthers four months after the Browns acquired Watson from the Houston Texans in March, said the ruling by disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson was “none of my business.”
“I’m paid to play quarterback and lead this team, not to make decisions on anything other than that,” Mayfield said after Carolina’s first padded practice of training camp.
Mayfield asked for a trade the day before the Browns made the deal for Watson, who at the time faced 25 civil suits alleging sexual misconduct.
“It’s in the mutual interest of both sides for us to move on,” Mayfield told ESPN at the time. “The relationship is too far gone to mend. It’s in the best interest of both sides to move on.”

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield will probably be asked questions about the Cleveland Browns, his former team, for at least a year or two. So it was no surprise on Monday when he was asked a question connected to the suspension of Browns QB Deshaun Watson.
Watson was suspended six games on Monday for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy after over 20 women accused him of sexual misconduct and assault while they were giving him sports massages. Judge Sue Robinson issued the ruling in a 16-page decision, which has since been released to the public.
The Browns and Panthers are scheduled to face off in Week 1. With Watson suspended for at least six games , backup QB Jacoby Brissett will likely start that game for the Browns.
During his media availability on Monday afternoon, Mayfield was asked to share his thoughts on facing his former team with Brissett starting instead of Watson.
“Honestly, it’s none of my business,” Mayfield said. “I don’t play against the other quarterback. I know that’s the most cliched thing to say, but that’s just the truth. When it comes down to it, I’m game planning against their defense, and if I’m playing or not I’m trying to help this team win. That’s my mindset going into it, so I’ve gotta keep getting better. But I’m not focused about Week 1 right now … we’ll handle that when it comes, but for now it’s about getting the Panthers better, and our offense continuing to get better as well.”

Mayfield A Sure Bet To Start
In his few public statements since the trade, Mayfield sounds like he is the starter for Carolina.
But fellow 2018 draft pick Sam Darnold isnt ceding the position just yet.

Were both in our eyes the starting quarterback for this team right now, Darnold said. And thats how were both going to view it. So, its just about going out there and competing, and that will be fun.
Head coach, Matt Rhule, plans on splitting the starting reps between the two.

It only took one day of training camp for Baker Mayfield to deliever some subtle shade aimed at the Cleveland Browns.
On his way to practice, Mayfield was greeted by fans yelling his name but spotted someone sporting a Browns jersey. Mayfield looked over and quickly said, Get that jersey outta here,per Schuyler Callihan of Sports Illustrated.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield moved on from his former team long ago, even before he was formally traded to the Carolina Panthers last month. Baker Mayfield Hopes To Play A Half In Preseason Dress Rehearsal

Mayfield told the media that hed like to play at least a half when the Browns travel down to Florida to take on Tampa Bay on Saturday. Freddie Kitchens, who has noted he might not go by the preseason norms in terms of playing time for his starters, laughed when he heard about Mayfields hopes.

For a variety of reasons, the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield will be linked together forever and especially early in this season. The Carolina Panthers acquired Mayfield to compete to be their starting quarterback. They gave up just a future fifth-round pick and are paying very little of his salary.

Fake Baker Mayfield Jersey Posted On Seahawks Pro Shop Amid Browns Trade Rumors
Amid rumors that the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns have been discussing a trade involving Baker Mayfield, a fake Mayfield jersey was leaked onto the Seahawks’ online pro shop.

Josina Anderson of CBS Sports HQ reported last week that the Seahawks have a “high-level” of interest in acquiring Mayfield and would be open to the idea of giving him a contract extension.
There has been no indication at this point that a trade is imminent. Mayfield has frequently been linked to the Seahawks and Carolina Panthers throughout the offseason.
